Hey how are you all doing? This looks like a good place for me and everyone seems pretty knowledgeable. Right now I'm in the USMC DEP and leave for boot June 2007. My contract is for Enlisted Aircrew and I was hoping to find out a little more about Loadmaster. From the basic overviews on the net it seems like a good MOS but I would like a little more insight to the activities and training of a loadmaster. Sorry if this is an overload of info. or a non relevant question. This justs seems like the best place to put this question.

I'm not an expert, but I don't think the Marine Corps has a designated "Loadmaster" MOS; I believe the C-130 crew are trained in all aspects of their jobs, and the crew chief generally acts as what we would call a loadmaster.
If anyone has a better answer, please chime in. I don't want to do this devil-pup wrong.

What specific questions are you asking about? Navy/Marine specifics like SERE and enlisted aviator school I've got no idea about, but I may be able to help with training questions and stuff like that.

BTW, you're not really maintenence with a side job of loading the jet. More like the opposite; you'll be well versed in how to service the Herk's fuel, oil, and normal pre/post/thru-flight ops, but A/R, cargo, pax, and backing up the rest of your crew is your main job.

Fent yes Loadmaster is it's own MOS. I'm an instructor at the Aircrew School so if you have any oother questions feel free to ask.
 
I'm a kc-130 loadmaster, pm me for all your questions.
You signed up for enlisted aircrew and you'll have that designator until you go up for the board at aircrew school.
I'll put it this way it is the best job in the Corps, and unlike the navigators and flight engineers we still have our job.
 
Hey there. this was back in '02 but when you complete Aircrew Candidate School, the Marine Corps pretty says what bird you'll be on (46, 22, 53, C-130, had a buddy who got UH-1 but he was a reservist). every once in awhile, people will have the oppurtunity to go in front of a loadmaster or nav(almost gone) board where youll have to demonstrate to them that you are capable of doing the math and work that goes into each school. Some were picked up for it, some weren't. If I remember right, a load board at that time came around about once every month and a half or so. Keep in mind, this could be completely different now.
 
yeah, when I went up for the board (1999)they gave you the packet the day before. You had the night to study it, came in the morning and took the test. They only needed 6 out of the 18 that tried. Like he said though, it depends upon the needs of the Marine Corps as to which bird you get. If I hadn't of gotten the Herc I would have been on a UH-1. Everybody signs up for enlisted aircrew MOS and then gets assigned after completing aircrew school. For example I had signed up as navigator and then went for the Load board because it was a month before the navigator board. There is also a slot for crew chiefs on Hercs but those are for the blind guys and also the GT requirment is not as high. I think it goes 115 for nav, 110 for load, and 105 for crew chief.

Don't let aro fool you. The eyesight requirements for all fixed wing aircrew is the same so you can be a blind loadie as well. Can you swim? There is fun and games to be played at Pensacola, FL. Get through boot camp and MCT. Then worry about that. Good luck!!!
