Looking for Preparation

Taz,
A great pub to read before you dive into those API pubs is "How to Stop Worrying and Start Living" by Dale Carnegie and Andrew MacMillan

I applaud your motivation, but you'll be in stressful situations soon enough - no need to pile it on yourself.

E5B has the right idea. Read the pubs like a week or 2 before. Don't try and memorize anything ... just READ them so that you understand the material. When you start class and read them again to memorize ... it will be much easier .. because you will understand everything and just have to memorize ....

I just want to take a moment and issue a big "screw you" to all you guys who went through API with 80% as your target minimum.

Yes... I scraped by with a 94% average as an '04 pilot. Next to last in my class and PROUD OF IT!

Just... for what it's worth.

I still like you all, though.

API is NOT something that you need to prepare for.

I agree. My roommate just finished API and didnt think it was all that hard. Like some ppl have said, its like 4 wks of Finals. Then after that, the fun water stuff. And by the looks of things are right now, you can look forward to a nice paid-vacation as soon as u get into P'cola. But things may be different when u get here. A-pool is pretty back'd up. Im snfo w/no IFS so im lookin to put TAD orders to San Diego. Im not expected to class up until Dec or Jan.

Have fun before you get to NAS, and have fun when u get NAS. Woot woot!

Thanks everyone for your input. Main theme seems to brenot to get too hyped up about API this far away from it, but when you get to that point make sure you put the required time in to do well. Side note, I got a tip from a buddy in one my college courses that used a digital voice recorder to record the lecture so that they could be more of an active listener. Is this allowed down there for classes that do not contain confidential material? Let me know what yall think. Thanks yall and I'll hopefully see you all in the fleet soon enough..Looking for TAD in Cleveland, OH for IFS this May..Hometown flying..yyeeehhaahhh!!! :D

Nothing taught in API is of a sensitive nature. I'd make sure to ask the instructor ahead of time, someone might have an issue with being taped, and doing it behind his back could result in unnecessasry pain. Everything taught is from the books anyway, you already have all the information.

I used a voice recorder in API. Nobody had any problem with it. I would just say something to the instructor before hand to be polite but he/she shouldn't have a problem with it. It actually helped.

Usually the instructors will give a review right before the test which usually focuses on exactly wht will be on the test. Having it on tape was cool cause I could play him asking the question, pause, answer and then listen to the answer. Also, sometimes the instructor would explain something (that I didn't understand when I read about it) a certain way so that I could understand it. Having that on tape and then reading the book helped a lot.

Yeah my boyz joked about it, like I was too serious or something but hey ... it helped me and no one is gonna knock you for trying. Do what helps you.

Peace,
