I was hoping would anyone be willing to let me see a copy of one of there LOR's. One of my Commanders agreed to write me a LOR for OCS. He wasn't to sure how to format so I've been trying to find an example on the internet to go off of. Really couldn't find any thing online so thats why I'm reaching out. Your help will be very much appreciated. I read on the Bupers website that wasn't a real format but still would like something to go off of.

Appreciate the help!

No problem... We typically ask you search before you ask a question, as Eagle was alluding too, but if you can't find something by all means! Everyone appreciates what you are doing over there and we understand the time constraints deployed individuals have. Basically, if you need anymore help don't hesitate to ask... Stay safe over there!

The link I showed gives military LOR's as well.. Just from skimming I saw Army and Air Force. Mine resemble those very closely.

I found those as well. They seem to be pretty good examples of LOR formats. That being said I would still use the format I describe instead of those with respect to Mav4ever02 situation. My reasoning is this. He is currently in the Navy and using a Navy Officer to write his LOR. The format I gave him would be better suited as it will be written to closely resemble the "Navy" way. Also, I think the board would expect it to be written like this coming from men/women who are presently or previously in the Navy. Would the board expect a civilian or anyone else to write it this way? No. If I came from another branch or straight off the street I would use your examples in a second as it would seem awkward/inappropriate to use the one I mention.

Not olnly that, if people actually searched before asking then this site would have a lot less to talk about and more importantly be less amusing :icon_smil

Be safe over there.

I just got an LOR from one of my professors yesterday. He is a retired USAF Colonel and he used the same format from the link you gave me "Twobecrazy."

FWIW- my LORs were a mixed bag in regards to formatting. Some just a simple letter format on company letterhead.

I think if it's from a civilian, as long as it is clearly labeled To, From, and for whom it's being written, then it isn't a huge deal.

I've got some newbie questions about LORs.

Do they have to be dated? If so, is there a maximum amount of time from the date it was written after which it's no longer acceptable and I have to get a new letter written (or even the same one with a current date)?

Is a scanned copy (truly a scan of a printed and signed letter, not just a digital format from the very start) acceptable or do I need to get a hold of the real letter?

Should I have the person writing it include their phone number, address, e-mail address, etc.? Or is their name and title sufficient?

I'm non-prior. Would it be beneficial to have the writers of my LORs fill out a DD Form 370 and attach their letters with it, or will just the letters be fine?
