Trust but verify is great when dealing with subordinates but you don't really do that with superiors. If I had something time sensitive when I would drop it off I would say something like "Sir can I come back to pick this up on XX" and then he would be expecting me.

I didn't say you don't, just you don't really, there is a way to do it so you aren't treating an officer like a junior sailor, jumping over your immediate officers head isn't the right way to do things.

of course it would be amusing to be a bystander to watch a E-6 or E-7 go up to a CDR and go "sir LT XXX hasn't signed the request chits I gave him yesterday"

The OP is doing things the wrong way.

I applied last year and got all the way through my MEPS visit before I found out that my vision was too shit for pilot, my recruiter told me LASIC was an option so I went and got done right away. Waivers wise it was freakishly fast and easy, I made sure to keep every single piece of paper that I ever got throughout this procedure, and just submitted them all for my waiver. This happened exactly 6 months and 3 days after my surgery and my waiver came back as approved not two days later. I didnt' even have to go back to MEPS, they just updated my file with my new vision. We'll find out if it was worth if I get selected and if I make it through nami.

Outside the navy, if you have the 4k needed for the surgery and are ok with spending this money I 300% recommend LASIC. It was absolutely mind-blowing not needing to wear glasses to see clearly as I went from 20/300 to 20/15 in both eyes! The legitimate quality of life improvement can't be understated. There are a few downsides, such as never being able to rub my eyes again, not being able to take any hits to my eye, and probably having to get a touch-up in 5+ years, but the mere fact that it gave me a chance to legitimately peruse my dream is 100% worth it in my opinion.

This makes me so happy to hear because I am currently in the 6 month waiting process and the only thing I fear the most is not clearing MEPS due to something, like my vision, that I can't control.
