I think the Navy uses red to denote goggle time, and green to denote combat. Red for combat makes more sense to me...

Tends to vary by community. We used red for night unaided, blue for aided, and green for combat time.

Damned if I know. Problems I've never had. Back when my logbook was done by hand, the Ops guys would only do the night time in either red or blue, depending on the mission.
