If that sounds like fun to you, then have at it. But, like in the Navy, it's not all choker whites and dining outs, so be ready to have more than a few sh!t sandwiches along with your "Hoorah."

Good times,

Brett

I think it should be understood by any of us hopefuls that a Sh!t sandwich will never be missing from our diet no matter which service we join. Just gotta learn to expect it

I think it is pretty obvious that your experience in whatever service you join is to a great extent up to you and what you make of it. I believe I've read that somewhere before on this site. I made a decision for the Marines somewhat based on recruiter stuff but largely because of Navy/Marine pilots that I talked to. But, like Brett said I have not done anything yet so I really don't know for myself. I think I'll offer my opinion in the future with my own actual experience to back it up. That being said, I think as a Marine you should be determined to make your service as a Marine an asset to the Corps and be the best Marine you can possibly be whatever your situation.

Behind all the "motivation" and "Hoorah" is a service with a very different philisophy. That means always doing things on the cheap, generally crappy living conditions and a much more intrusive way of interacting with its members lives. If that sounds like fun to you, then have at it.

Different philisophy is 100% right. Marines act different overall, and are certainly treated different. Some might say worse. It is a bit of a badge of pride, though. I loved asbestos filled, moldy, waaay overfilled barracks. I tried to explain our living conditions as Officers to some AF and even Navy guys and they basically thougth I was lying to make Marines sound tough. I got a kick out of that.

If you are a Marine going to a Navy or army, or AF, or whatever base for the first time, stand by for some serious culture shock. My idea of military (before and after entering the service) was very different from what I saw there.
