Marriage and follow-on orders

Can anyone tell me how I can get follow-on orders to API and Primary through my ROTC unit? My aviation LT had not heard of this before and I'd really like to make this happen if possible. My wife to be will be a teacher and if we can plan on living in one place for at least a year, she'll be able to work. Otherwise, I guess she'd better find a hobby...

I apologize if this is a repost, but I tried searching and didn't come up with much.

Call your detailer...or if your LT is willing...have him call the detailer. This is fairly straightforward and if he gives you too hard a time about it, its likely because he has no desire to work for ya...:D

Since she is the "wife to be" I recommend retaining her in that position (to be) until you have a cruise under your belt.

The taking time off because "you will only be there xx months" often turns into female companions never working again.

Believe it.

Or better yet, marry your dog......I think you can do that in California.

Good luck with that - ain't gonna happen. At this point, there's no telling when or where you'll do Primary. Do not bother any detailer with such trivial requests - they will laugh in your face. Such is the reality of the training pipeline. Welcome to Naval Aviation.

Just ask to stay at Whiting. The worst thing that can happen is they say no. It's not like everyone is fighting to go to any one place.

I was in your position last year: just call your detailer as Scoober said (or have your LT do it), and it is an easy order mod. I had this done before I was married b/c I knew I was going to be married by the time I was moved to Pensacola. The Navy will probably change your orders anyway once you get married--once married, I was told they only wanted to pay for one move. From what I saw, all married guys stayed at Whiting...

Unless it's changed recently, most everyone I've known who came to API married got follow-on orders. Notice, I did say most, a few people didn't.

Anyways, isn't the point of the detailer to ask questions like this? I mean, it is his job isn't it?

At USNA we were asked if you were going to be married before reporting to API. If yes, you were to get follow on orders. This didn't work out for me so I jumped through the hoops there with no sucess. Was told by the personel officer that "the Navy does not care about the future. It deals with the present." I made a ten second phone call to the detailer one afternoon, and I had follow on orders within a couple days. He was a little grumpy at first but then was cool about it after learning that no one at USNA was willing to help with the issue.

If married people (or prospective married people) are getting hooked up when others aren't, that's complete BS. Kinder gentler, I suppose. I feel like channeling A4s.
