I wasn't actually referring to myself.
One of my old DH's was a test pilot. After his department head tour didn't go so well, he was able to transfer to AEDO (???) or something like that, where he returned to TPS as an instructor and then is finishing up his 20 in something he likes doing. The only reason he got this opportunity is because of his previous test pilot training. He might have still been able to finish his 20 along some other road, but maybe not in a career field he enjoyed so much.
