Any opinons on what's best for 3 guys trying to live together....

1) Nice Aptmnt in P'Cola w/ gym and pool but 30-45min drive to Whiting

or

2) Rent newer house in Pace / Milton with less drive to Whiting each day.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated - we report June 22nd from Coast Guard.

i drive 35 mins to whiting from p'cola... it's not bad... actually gives me a chance to review brief items in my head while i'm driving. there is absolutely nothing to do in milton.

living in P-cola is definitely better, and there are some pretty nice housing opportunities in between. keep in mind you may be reporting daily at NAS for several months, i know people who were at NASP for 5 months before reporting over to Whiting. unless you're planning to buy a home in milton, p-cola is a pretty good bet.

Milton pretty much blows (that's where they moved AMO school, yay). The way I look at it, you'll drive 35 minutes to whiting because you HAVE to, but if you live in the Milton/Pace area, driving 40 minutes to go to outback on the weekend becomes a chore.

I am definetly going to be in the minority on this one... but here it goes. Went to API, corpus and now am back for helos. I am living in milton.

I know from corpus (assuming the regime is the same at North Field) when I was going to a brief at 0530, I did not enjoy waking up at 0430 to get to work. I only lived 11 miles away so it was a 15 min drive. If you are living in Pcola and have an early brief.... my buddies are waking up at 0330. F*&K THAT! Same thing when you have had a long day flying or studying or whatever at work. You just want to get home and start studying, sleeping whatever. During the week I did not have much time to go do things out on the town (until the end of primary where it was kind of a blast!).

So the way I look at it... during the week, I do not do much for fun anyway, just study and go to work, and don't waste a ton of money or time on driving 5 times a week. But for the 2 days that I am not working (weekend) it is not too bad a drive to pensacola where the fun is. 2 days of driving or 5 days usually at earlier hours?????? your choice. There are some nice places to live in milton, and yes milton is boring as hell... but it is very nice and convient being close to work.

Hey bch,

This is driving me nuts. When I was in milton, there was a sports bar that had 25 cent wings on Tuesdays. Do you know the name of that place? It's on the "main strip" with all the other establishments. I didn't find that place until about half way through...wish I knew about it sooner.

Here's my two cents. Take it for what it's worth. My wife and I are hoping to settle on a house today. It is a brand new one in Pace. When she first went down there to find a house for us, I had my mind set on the 32514 zip code, which is north of Pensacola Regional. I figured that would give me a short enough ride into Pensacola and not too bad of a ride into Milton. Well, I was somewhat dissappointed with the houses we were being shown in that area. So we started looking into Pace.

The houses there are nicer for the money. It's a bit of a longer drive to Pensacola but I will deal. Once I transfer to Milton, it'll be sweet because I won't have to drice that far, but I'm still not too far from everything Pensacola has to offer. The drive to Pensacola beach is roughly the same. There's not much in Pace from what I understand except houses so not too many people are out that way that don't have a reason to be there. However, it is a growing area and I believe property value will start to rise quickly.

So basically, I'm agreeing with bch. It'll be nicer to have a shorter drive during the week and have to drive just a hair farther on the weekends into P'cola. There you have it, let the bashing begin.

The Buffalo Wild Wings up here in Dayton does that. They might do it wherever you are now.

Thanks, my point was that Milton bites so bad, 25 cent wings is a big night out.

I definetly will not argue that milton BLOWS!!!! but I don't have time to do anyhting during the week anyway, so it really doesn't matter....

I will have to check into that wings place, no idea what it is called, but it should not be hard to find in this ghost town.

I think it's called Charley's or something...it's in a little plaza. It's before wal-mart though.

I lived about 5 min from NASP during the pool/API then moved to the Whiting Q during primary. My reasoning was kinda different from most guys 'at all costs GET JETS!!' So I put my T.V/VCR/Computer in storage and simply lived in the sims/squadron. The good thing was that during BI's/RI's I spent 6-8 hours a day in practice(add in two sims and you have a nice long day) On the weekends? Simply hang out with your NFO buddies crash at their pads and buy them breakfast.

But that was simply my extremism. Like the commodore said the worst thing you want is not to select the platform you want and then say "I wish I'd worked harder" I have a buddy that lived on the beach drove from there to Whiting and wound up with a 35 NSS. I'm sure there's some kind of correlation somewhere.

Just to add in, I agree with airwinger. It all depends on what you want to fly and what cost you are willing to pay. I lived in the Q at Whiting, and OH MY GOD IT SUCKED. However I got jets.
I also had no tv and instead lived in the sims. All the time I spent in them for BI's really paid off in RI's because you have the monkey skills built in.
Milton does suck. Guys are not joking about that. I just listened to what an IP told me before getting to Primary, "These next six months will determine the a huge part of the rest of you life. Dont look back and say I wish I would have studied harder."
When you reach selection you will look back and ask that question.
Besides, what my buddies and I did was just trade off playing DD on the weekends. Its cheaper to drive to Pcola only once or twice a week than 5 times.
