I believe most ARs manufacturers will actually void the warranty if you use steel-cased ammo.

USUALLY ... when a gun blows up and/or has a material failure ... usually ... you can trace it back to the ammunition ... the stuff that goes "BANG". Kel-Tec has had some QA issues in the past with some product, but most reviews on this particular model have been positive -- except for noise questions.

I got one when I wanted to 'try' an AR-style 'pistol' but I hated the 'look' of the buffer tube sticking out the back of the receiver on the 'AR pistol' models. So I picked up a PLR-16 that now is somewhat 'tricked out' ... I've put @ 300 rounds of .223 & 5.56mm through it and it's 'fun' to shoot ... no drips, no runs, no errors as of yet ... BUT: it's still somewhat of a 'novelty' gun ... not really a 'serious' firearm, whatever that might mean to other individuals ...

Oh, yeah ... don't run -- at least I won't run -- WOLF through anything other than an AK or mebbe a Glock ... most other things actually 'care' (at least a little bit) about the ammo you feed them ...

One of problems I have heard with steel-cased ammo is that steel doesn't expand like brass in the chamber so there is slightly more room for junk to build up in the chamber. Too much junk will usually cause a very high chamber pressure if you change to a brass round. From my understanding some guns have a specific tolerance that will minimize the effects and others will blow apart. I suspect that may have been the case in the pictures

You can get a new eotech for less than $350.

Bushnell also makes a similar, less expensive product but it doesn't have as much protection in case you drop it.

I just put an extra set of batteries in my LaRue Tactical FUG.

Problem solved, well, in several thousand hours anyway.

The EO Tech 516 was my choice. Nice blend of the capabilities that you need, and save money on the options that you don't. Sure, the 556 is tricky, but if I am going to need to use NVG's with my weapon, the right gear will be issued to me. Being able to co-witness your irons also eliminated the need for the quick release levers in my mind.

Obturate is the word for it, and you're right about that. Cowboy action shooters and fans of the 45 Long Colt know about this, as even brass cases get heavily sooted on the outside. Part of the problem with steel is that the lacquer used to coat it builds up on the (also steel) chamber. The fix is to clean your chamber (which a lot of folks skip) or Flitz it with an appropriately sized mop in a low-speed drill. That helps prevent lacquer buildup.

The worst thing to see is a nice rifle with cheap glass on it (not to say Eotech is cheap - but I wouldn't get anything cheaper than that IMHO)

Eotechs are nice, but just my opinion...... these are awesome:

Roger that. You know I talk about battery life but I own 2 EOtechs and haven't replaced the batteries in either one of them yet. I don't think I've ever run them more than 2 hours at a time.
