Wait a sec. I don't drink coffee... what are you trying to say??:D

You have enough against you just from being here.

For what it's worth, we have Starbucks in my squadron. Turns out it was cheaper than Navy brew.

Four things that are a must on the float: Coffee Beans, Tupperware (to keep them fresh), a grinder, and a french press.

I'll second the coffee press + grinder. It's the only reason I survived my IA in Iraq. :D

A little advice for the P-3 guys, don't let the FE that has never made the coffe make the coffee. I can recall in stark detail the night we flew a night MIO in the NAG and the senior FE self-motivated and made coffee. I had a cup or two and realized that I was extremely excited about navigating and making radio calls.

"Wagon train this is YB 123 interrogative"
"YB 123 go ahead"
"Wagon train who is the man that will risk his neck for the brother man?"
"YB 123 say again"
"Wagon train who's the cat who won't back out when there is danger all about? Who's the black private dick that's a sex machine to all the ladies? Be advised, Shaft"

It was funny at the time.

In between I was composing opera in my head. As soon as I realized how high I was, I looked at the urn in the back. Old PO1 Starbuck had filled the entire basket with coffee grounds (about 1/2 can of pure columbian brown). We were all pretty excited about coffee that night but the brewing duties were changed from then on.

Good times.

You think you all had it bad the coffee in the E’s mess was awful, actually WAY beyond awful. Those tall urns probably hadn’t been cleaned or even empty since the ship had been commissioned, or on shore, since the chow hall been built. (Good grub though!)

Steve

CLEAN the urns??????? That would ruin the "break in" crud, that would be like scraping a corn cob pipe. :(

Good advice. Don't let folks who don't drink coffee make your coffee. And make sure junior SDOs are trained on coffee before they make it for the XO. I've seen guys re-use grinds, make it super strong as above, super weak, and worst of all...I saw a guy go around and collect all the half drank water bottles and use them to fill up the water tank. Nasty.

Somewhere at work I have a "Coffee Maker PQS," I'll see if I can't find it.

A chocolate covered donut, a cigarette, and a cup of Navy Joe ... the Attack Pilot's Breakfast of Champions !!!

I had one B/N who would NOT fly w/out all 3 of the above ... I am not kidding.

The guy WAS focused ... :)

Best wedding present I got was a $300 self-starting, self-grinding coffee maker. It's been my alarm clock ever since...

PSW got me a cuisinart that does the same thing for about $100 for Christmas. It's a god-send. I want a super automatic coffee maker, but haven't been able to justify the cost...

Ahh...liquid ass...navy coffee. We had Starbucks onboard which somehow, the folks in the wardroom were able to make suck as well.

^Noted^ A fellow boot 2ndLt (non coffee drinker) once made the first pot of the morning resemble weak beef broth. It was quickly explained by our betters that coffee is not a beverage, but a tool and its proper rendering therefore must be taken very seriously.

Dirt DEt coffee is better (usually) than boat coffee. We were well taken care of with Starbuck, Peets and Dunkin Donuts beans, a grinder and the best damn 220VAC $20 coffee maker on Earth.

...........
Just a little side note.

#1 son is currently enjoying an extended vacation in the sand box. As one of the junior LT's in the squadron, coffee became one of his assignments.

Per his request to the old folks at home, his mother went to the local Starbucks to procure some various kinds of coffee. The local Starbucks manager decided that his location would sponser the squadron during the entire deployment and the coffe would be free - score!

Your mileage may vary:D
