Navy JTACs?

If you haven't pissed yourself because you thought your junk was pointed in the piss bag and it actually wasn't you're not a #navypilot
I’m not a #navypilot, but I also only pissed in the jet once. Not even on my 9.5 hour flight did I break the seal.

Looking back on this thread, the original reason I asked the question was because I had Marine Officer mentors that did FAC tours running around in the dirt and being a prior-enlisted Marine, I am not opposed to that.

Since joining the helo community, I spoke to a dissociated sea tour detailer who was a cat-other at the FRS and said that ANGLICO and NSW support are definitely on the table if there are spots, however it's very much needs of the Navy and they'd rather slot you in a boat job just so they have the numbers. We'll see how those numbers adjust with the new tour length policy.

Not sure about your timeline but if you go WTI in the HSC community there is an opportunity to advocate for yourself to become a JTAC as a procedural control SME at NAWDC or a WS. Just another opportunity I didn’t immediately see scrolling through the thread.

NSW is a good gig. Great community and as long as you work hard and have the proper expectation management, it’ll be a great time.

I had a JO do this for NSW after his FRS tour. With his XO’s blessing he worked off slate detailing to see if it was possible and got the job. I don’t think PERS was happy, but he was.

Not JTAC exactly, but I know a couple of 13XX guys who did NSW tours and wound up working with the UAV Platoons. Robot stuff isn't a bad thing to add to an aviation resume if you're not going to be racking up time in your T/M/S of origin. Caveat that it was a few years back, I don't know if they're still organized that way or if those tours are still an option.

Not sure if it is related, but a few years back I was getting ready to leave an FBO when a nice DH Twin Otter came in. The first thing I noticed was the nearly microscopic “N” number then I saw an old army associate (SFODD type) getting out to stretch. I said hello and he introduced me around and it was clear these guys were heading somewhere to the mountains for some training. But, the pilot of twin was a naval aviator. He was wearing his leather jacket with gold wings patch and some helo squadron patch I couldn’t quite see. Like most team guys his hair was long. I know that USASOC owns a number of civilian aircraft but I wonder if there are opportunities for navy types to fly for them as some kind of a shore tour?

Or maybe he was just a guy wearing his dad’s old flight jacket?
