I'm Active Duty applying for OCS, does any know how to request a medical waiver? I showed my PCM (aviation med) that waiver request can be annotated 1n the 1420/1 page 8 0f 14 but he wants to dig deeper. From my understanding that the medical waiver request is submitted with the package, sent to OCS pers then Review Board for approval. Can someone assist?

Good morning, I am in the process of considering joining the Navy as an Officer. My wife and I met with a Naval Officer Recruiter in Orlando a couple of days ago, and I would like to get a second opinion on some of the information he told us.

He said I would be a strong candidate for getting pro-rec'd for Navy OCS. But it wasn't until I got home and started doing a little research, that I realized that it might be a little more competitive than he made it sound. From your experience, would a candidate with my background be considered a strong candidate? Or was he being a stereotypical recruiter, just telling me what I want to hear?

My background: 27 years old. Graduated from University of Central Florida in 12/04. BS in Management Information Systems with 3.6 GPA. I have worked in the IT field for the last 6+ years. Started as a Help Desk Tech and worked my way up to Network Administrator. Currently I work as an Application Specialist for a Medical EMR Software Development company. I have the following certifications: A+, Network+, Security+, MCP, MCSA, MCSA: Security, MCSE, MCSE: Security.

As far as extracurriculars go, I have numerous hobbies (drumming in various bands, working on computers/networks, photography, running, etc) but was not a member or on the board of any clubs. I can round up very strong letters of rec, but probably not many from active/retired Military Officers.

I am looking to go into the Information Warfare Officer program.

I'm about to start studying for the ASTB exam.

What are the acceptance rates for Navy OCS for someone with no military background or experience? Also, what are the acceptance rates and/or qualifications necessary to get into the IW program?

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide!
Good morning! Your academic and professional background, coupled with your extensive certifications, certainly make you a strong candidate for Navy OCS. However, it's wise to be thorough in your research, as the competitiveness can vary. Regarding the Information Warfare Officer program, your experience in the IT field, certifications, and ongoing commitment to studying for the ASTB exam align well with the requirements. Additionally, highlighting your work in the Medical EMR Software Development field might offer a unique perspective, especially with the increasing importance of integration with EMR in military healthcare settings.
