Jacks, at least your about the same age as the gal your interested in. The folks that are offering advice have ben there and done that. Statistically love doesn't last forever. American actor Doug Hutchison never learned this lesson when he was your age and now look at what's he's done, he married a 17 year old.

Jacks, here's the thing: Pretty much every 17-year-old ever has said something to the effect of "Our love is different, no one understands, this is forever." That's fine; it's part of being 17. That said, picking a college based on proximity to the person you're dating in high school is rarely a good move (and that applies to choosing between states or schools within the same state, let alone choosing between countries). Make the decision based on what's right for you. If things work out with your girlfriend, then great. If not, you're not stuck feeling like you gave something up for something that didn't work out. Bottom line, going to school in Ireland means probably staying in Ireland. If that's what you want, no one's telling you to do anything different. It's just not the route to getting a commission.

If you can't bear to be without her for a year, how the heck do you intend to be in the Navy?

Decide what you want. An Irish degree and a Irish job and time in Ireland with your girlfriend? Or an American degree and a shot at the American Navy and a long distance relationship with your girlfriend? Life as a grown up, which you almost are, is about choices and consequences and repercussions. If you try to have it all, you almost invariably end up with nothing.

How could this guy get someone that looks like that? (disregard the fact she was underage at the time)
