You will be issued a handgun, 9mm now but my first cruise it was a colt 45, anyway to answer your question, in our community you could bring your own weapon and fly with it, it had to be logged in your ALSS jacket (the folder for your gear), but honestly the ones you are issued are fine and you wont need one....

Zab1000.....that's bull****. Didn't anyone say "Um, HELLO!?" I'd be pissed if I got partial mags in a high threat zone.

well Fly Navy, counterstrike tells me that i can take a shot to the head as long as the other guy is using a USP, Glock 9mm, FN Five-Seven, or a Beretta 92F. Oh and apparently, getting shot in the head with an M4 will kill me, even with a kevlar helmet on, but not if the other guy's using a silencer.

In regards to "Fly Navy ENS SNA"
"Zab1000.....that's bull****. Didn't anyone say "Um, HELLO!?" I'd be pissed if I got partial mags in a high threat zone."

We were lucky to get that many. Our wing had no plan in place for issuing weapons/ammo. Our armory could only support that. Another classic moment was when we were told 2 guys would get the shotguns if we had to bail out.

Wow, that just sucks. Though a shotgun isn't a bad deal. What aircraft? I'll guess P-3 by your avatar?

What's the deal about the Berettas being "phased out?" Is the Navy really moving to the SIG or is that just a unit thing? Not that I'd complain if they were, I'd take a P226 over the standard gov't Beretta any day, I just hadn't heard of anything like that going on.

Trying to bail out of a P-3 with an SV2, helmet, a new thin-pack parachute and a shotgun would pretty much suck. My priority in a bailout (besides being last man out and setting altitude hold on so the plane doesn't go crazy when I run to the back) is getting out and pulling the D-Ring. Last thing I need is some big gun f*cking up my gear/risers.

Hey nittany03, you NROTC? I think I recognize your name.

Yup. Just got commissioned in May so my ears haven't quite dried out yet.

Judging by your profile, I think I got there after you left. Didn't show up until fall of '99.
