I got my own room all right, maybe my recruiter likes me. Actually, it probably had to do with the fact that the Seattle office set it up for me, and I have no idea when the last time they sent anyone to MEPS in Butte (Seattle MEPS would have been a long drive for me). The hotel wasn't the Hilton, but it was a decent place. Butte MEPS was fairly well run and everything went smoothly except that we were late leaving because someone who was supposed to be there for the swearing-in ceremony was late getting back (I caught a ride with the Billings enlisted recruiter, I didn't want to spend the gas money to drive my car up). Also, they were good enough to make sure I left with a copy of all my paperwork. I just wish I'd gotten a full night's sleep and more to drink before I'd gone, I got 20/20 but maybe I'd have passed the DP test and not have that issue to worry about.
I took and passed the Titmus DP test a couple days ago, but I didn't feel very confident about it. My eyes were bothering me a bit that day, more so than at MEPS, so maybe that affected it. Still, I'm not feeling the optimism, I'm trying to avoid being psychosomatic about my eyes as I read about things that affect DP: I'm half afraid I've got some degree of monofixation or some such thing. Whatever the case, I'm wondering why my DP isn't checking out as well as the rest of my vision: I've got better than 20/20 in both eyes (I could have read the 20/15 line on the AFVT machine, I was only asked to read the 20/20) and have never had any vision issues. I think that if I'm in good health and having a good day I shouldn't have any trouble when I get to API, but I wonder if I might have some deficiency in stereopsis and I feel like I don't have much margin for error. I don't know, maybe I should go back to the optomitrist and have a more thurough consultation. Maybe I'm just worrying myself over nothing, but I'm beginning to think it would be better to find out exactly where I stand and get a final confirmation of the status of my vision rather than just heading out and hoping for the best. As far as where I stand with the Navy, I'm just waiting for the paperwork for my final select to go through, and that paperwork will include a report from the optomitrist saying that I passed the Titmus test with better than 40 arcseconds.
Oh and Congrats on getting your clearance, GatorBoy. I hope I'm not raining on your parade too much with my concerns here.
