All I said was "Concur"....that is hardly giving you a hard time.

At any rate.....you may want to contact NCIS to see what they can do for you. Maybe JAG can help, but I would suspect they won't be able to. I could be wrong and hope I am. No matter what you do, you need to be documenting who you talk to about this from now on as you try to get more information. Who, where, when, why. If at the end, you are unable to find anything, you will still need to provide information as to what you did to find out. Names, numbers, locations, city....you name it.

Brett and Steve dont give me such a hard time, I was in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong people. like i said this happend over 9 years ago and the preceedings lasted every bit of 5 minutes, im sorry if i cant remember the exact legal jargon used for what i was placed on probation for. The judge was very vague and used alot of big words i didnt understand at age 15. Ive been trying to find out, but cant, im at a loss.

No one is trying to give you a hard time. All trying to help. In the comments section, simply state what happened and when, drop the "legal speak" as it adds nothing. All we are looking for is your honesty. Not to worry about the legal aspect, e.g., was it a Cat 3 or what ever. Just the facts as you remember. It sounds like to me it is not a big deal.

Precisely what do you wish to do in the Navy?

Is there any relevance to your nom de plume, "Crash"?

My parents dont even remember what happened in court, im just gonna do what zippy said and file it as a cat 3 anyway since i was "involved" in the cat 3 offense even though i didnt commit it. cat 4 or 5's dont have anything listed for being an accessory to a misdeameanor charge so i guess ill disclose it as a cat 3 offense.

Hopefully when the background check goes through i can maybe get some info from the investigator. i just dont want to put down the wrong thing or a lesser charge and then be held liable for falsefing or not disclosing the correct name of the charge later on.

Come on, the FBI would have given him twins!
sorry-- i wasn't clear, as i realized from reading steve's post. i meant that a JAG could possibly advise you on how to navigate the legal waters here, not get the information for you. it makes no sense to me that you don't have access to your own record, regardless of how many years it has been.

if you didn't do anything wrong, you shouldn't have been put on probation.... unless, this was a small city court, also known as a revenue court. kind of like when you get a ticket, pay it, and they wipe it off your record. they're not supposed to do that, but some do, for the revenue. did you pay a fine?

at any rate, they should at the very least be able to tell you if there is any sort of case/file with your name on it. if you have to go back there every day, or call every couple of hours, DO IT. however, be nice. court clerks hold the keys to their kingdom. if you irritate them, you'll get the door slammed in your face. heck, you can even play the patriotic all-american kid who wants to do his duty by serving his country, especially now, in a time of war, and this is hampering your efforts to get the ball rolling. all you need is the information to provide for your security clearance...

the chief is right about the checks. they will dig and dig if they smell something even slightly foul.

i recommend that you start communicating with the court via certified mail. that leaves a definite paper trail. you simply can write one letter, and send it every week, until you get what you want. once you have the name of a clerk, make sure you send it restricted to that person, so that they sign for it on a weekly basis. they'll clue in to what you're after. in fact, you can always write the presiding judge a letter, explaining your conundrum, and why you need the information to be released to you. sometimes they're willing to help out in 'special' cases, like military or other federal service.
