I’ve never watched an episode of JAG or NCIS, but based on some conversations with my mother, it’s clear that her perception of what I do is firmly grounded in whatever is portrayed in those shows.

JAG: Pilot-Lawyer does cool stuff no lawyer has ever done in the history of the profession.

NCIS: Explosion goes off. All the main characters are fine. They were wearing their bullet-proof vests.

If you're telling me the Navy isn't really like this, I may need to look at other branches.

+1 on Jack Ryan. :) 4 episodes in as well. I was digging the French woman intel/cop with the thunderbolt tatt on her cheek!

I watched the pilot for Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan (source: Amazon prime video). It was alright. Some obvious IC and DoD fumbles, though. If you freeze frame on Jack Ryan’s (a.k.a. Jim Halpert) USMC service record, first of all he’s got sideburns in his dress blues, secondly it says he is the rank “LT” (not 1Lt or 2Lt) but paygrade “E05.” It also says he was a Marine infantry officer. Later in the episode, Ryan says “oh I’m just an analyst; I don’t go in the field.” Bullllllll-shit, show me a single USMC infantry officer who would ever say that phrase out loud. Jack Ryan would probably have an EGA moto tatt, a high n’ tight, and be breaking down his boss’s door trying to go into the field while bringing his homebuilt AR.

P.S. If you are a USCG aviator/aircrew, this show makes you look like the CIA’s taxi service and valet parking in the same scene.

P.P.S. The future love interest, Cathy... is not that attractive and also looks nothing like Anne Archer in Patriot Games. I mean how hard is it to find a slender brunette in Hollywood? Honestly, casting Jenna Fischer would have been way funnier, and still slightly closer to appropriate.

I watched this last weekend, in IMAX, the whole deal. It was a beautifully shot movie, but damn...they made going to the moon look like one fucking grim exercise. Nothing but clenched jaws and determined scowls.
