New CFI requirements

There is probably no less than three Under Secretary officials and directorate heads who probably have this on their accomplishments/OPR/FITREP and maybe another dozen GS-15s - saving us from the scourge that is undocumented foreign student pilots. The Good Idea Fairy at work!
I would have ASSumed that the citizen-vs-not thing is more of a "let's not have another Mohamed Atta" situation and less of a "let's care about who is here legally to work and study" situation?

Correct. And that's the original intent of the TSA website/account. Flight schools (especially in FL) take it very seriously. I can even understand the TSA/FAA wanting all active CFIs to have an account. Overkill, but understandable.

The issue comes into keep documentation. What is an independent CFI supposed to do? Keep the birth certificate? That's kind of a PII nightmare. Make a note in the CFI's files like, "Certified Mr. number9 is a U.S. citizen on 11/6/24?" Sure, but the CFI could make that note at any time later on.

No one is going to care about the documentation unless something bad happens, and even if that happens, verifying the citizenship won't be the actual cause of the incident since if the person is already a citizen, there's not requirement to enter them into the TSA system.

I certify that [First name, MI, Last name] has presented me a [type of document presented, such as a U.S. birth certificate or U.S. passport, and the relevant control or sequential number on the document, if any] establishing that [he or she] is a U.S. citizen or national in accordance with 49 CFR § 1552.3(h).

I keep a picture or PDF scan in my files for 5 years. I also keep a record of the endorsement for 3 years. Foreflight Logbook makes this pretty easy

For the record, I didn't say it wasn't easy. My point was that having the account is dumb for those that are just doing BFRs and IPCs for friends. But the TSA is a one-size fits all government entity.
Absolutely concur!!!
