Concur. Get the PRK before you go in. It's a 3-6 month recovery, and then you're waiver-able. SNFO to SNA is a rare thing indeed, the only guy I've seen do it in 5 months of working at Student Control (long story) had straight 100s on his API academics.

Mumbles, what's a 1315? Wouldn't he want to get the surgery, waiver, in order to commission as a 1395 (SNA)?

1315 is reserve Naval Aviator (so technically, now, it should be 1310). I think he just got it confused and should have said 1395...although technically it will be 1390.

Even NFO to NA later is not a sure bet and even those who get it have to go back through flight school and the FRS thereby losing competitive FITREPs while their peers move ahead. Then you end up in the fleet as a "nugget" pilot yet fairly senior....tough row to hoe.
