Newby question of Drug Use

Hello, I'm new to this forum and a little lost. I'm looking for some good detailed information on the steps for being a pilot in the marines.

I guess I should give some background information. I was prior service Air Force as an F-16 Crewchief. I was hoping to fly F-16s one day. I have a pretty competitive profile I think, but my dumba*s messed it up by trying marijuana one time in college after separating from active duty. There is no official word yet that its an def DQ but since it's AF and their picky selections because they can be, I can't see it working to my advantage. I kind of want a change from the AF anyway. Most of the pilots seem like sheltered mamas boys..

Anyhow, I hear the Marines and Army are not as selective and/or harsh minor marijuana use.. Anyone care to shed light on the subject?

Wait wait wait...Did you pop positive on a test for it, or are you afraid that you're gonna blurt it out in front of someone important?
If it was just once you're probably OK to admit it during the initial interview. I know plenty of guys who I'm certain have tried it, admitted it to their OSO and still passed selection boards.

First, do your research elsewhere to get the basics of how it all works. Then, come back here and use the SEARCH function to find out the details.

As far as your other infraction, the Marines frown upon any type of drug use - cant speak for the other services.

I would recommend keeping your mouth shut and pretend it didn't happen.

Bad idea!

What happens when they get investigated for a security clearance and the professional investigator talks to one of his references. He tells him or her about 3 other guys they both knew. Let's just say that one of those 3 guys isn't the sharpest tool in the shed and when asked about Maui Wowie, says, "Yea, we smoked it together, but it was just once!" YOU FAIL!!

You made the decision; now you fess up. One joint will not kill your chances, but lying about it could get you into big trouble.

Another thing that would get a commisioned officer in trouble is encouraging an applicant to lie on official documents.

Happy New Year.

It's not that you forgot about the security clearance... do you know why they'd revoke your clearance? Because they can't trust you - because you lied. Take it from Tiger. Lying is bad. Don't lie.

I know a lot of guys who got commissioned after admitting some drug use. If you failed a drug test or got arrested then that will surely put a pretty big dent in your chances.

I didn't pop positive or get in trouble with it or anything. Just admitting it on my own will. Problem is it was after I was already active duty, so Idk how lightly it will be taken. It was over three yrs ago now but still. I guess if this doesn't work out FBI it is..

Two different stories and counting.

Don't come back to the service. You aren't needed.

Try politics....You'll fit right in.
Could be wrong but I think he's trying to say he smoked the weed after he spent time active duty i.e. he should already "know" the military drug policy... not that he smoked it while he was on active duty.

when I spoke to the Marine OSO he told me if you smoke up after you have already been in you're DQ'd. I guess it falls under 'you should know better'

Little quick to judge aren't we.. You must be Chaste.

When it comes to drug use and lying, I am chaste i.e. I have never done drugs and I don't/wouldn't lie to cover my poor decisions.

Your original post/question should be rhetorical but you are just shopping other's opinions before you make another error in judgement.

You knew before you smoked out that it could (possibly) close doors for you. You chose to possibly close those doors by your actions and now you want us to say everything will be okay. It may be but don't be surprised if they show you the door. The line is long and full of prospects without skeletons in their closet. Why take the chance on someone who has proven they make poor decisions even knowing the consequences?

You would be well served to lose the attitude before and after asking for advice. Move along.

edit: magnet seems to agree and he beat me to it.

bud, I was trying to clarify how I interpreted your comments to a very experienced & respected Navy pilot in FlyBoyd and instead of doing it yourself on your next post, you decided to make a douche bag comment.

Good luck…go smoke some more weed ‘cause with your attitude I doubt anybody here with any credibility will help you…
