NFO or SNA

I am a new member here and I have noticed that there are old threads (2001-2003) that talk about age waivers for people trying to get a pilot slot. My current recruiter says that the hard cutoff is age 29, and thats it! I am 28, and will be 29 this June. I already have a degree, private pilot's lic, instrument rating, a little over 200 hours, and will be getting my commercial/multi-engine ratings within the next couple of months. I have been in the Marines for 10 years. At the most I would be 29.5 upon graduating OCS. Is there no way to waive a couple of months? Or go from NFO to SNA once you hit API or something? I am confused and my recruiter is new. I apologize if the question has been asked before, but everthing I did see on the site is a couple of years old, and we all know how fast word changes! Any help you guys offer would be a big help! Thanks!!

Because you have prior service the age limit for pilot can be waivered to 31. It is a waiver, however, and not always granted.

LOL. "Gauge" is just a reference to me trying to find a SNA slot. Thanks for the age 31 reply. Is that a hard waiver to obtain? Any good reference I can show the recruiter? Thanks again everybody!

I think he means gouge?

I KNOW he means gouge. Or atleast I HOPE he means gouge. But it still doesn't make sense.

"Gouge" is just a reference to me trying to find a SNA slot.

Oh well, I'm not going to try to figure it out.

Dude you need to read the instruction. It will have everything in it that you need to do to apply and have info about waivers and what is required. I know that in the past SNA's were waived up to 31 but at some point it was taken back down to 29. I don't know what it is now. Get the instruction and read it. I have sat on boards for guys trying to get commissioned. Their stock would go down if they hadn't looked at the instruction. It is your future, don't trust what others say. Trust the instruction.

If I had a dime for every time this has been the case, I'd have damn near ten dollars.

My advice, as others have said, would be to read the instruction and try to get the waiver first to see if you can even apply. If you get it, then go for pilot. If not, then you will at least have knocked out that path and you can focus on what's left.

Good luck to you man.

SSgt,
Are you active duty? Applying for ECP? OCC? Echo what others have said about reading the orders. An appicant who hasn't done their homework will quickly go to the bottom of any CO's stack. Check out MCO P1100.73.

I would be an OCC slot for USMC and USN. I am open to both. USMC says they absolutely cannot do it (Raleigh OSO.) I think the Navy OSO is just new/confused.

HHmm....for a SSgt w/ 10 yrs? Is your PFT or GPA in the crapper? I've seen a lot worse waived.

No, good gpa (3.6) and I haven't done a PFT for them yet, but I'm usually a high first class (250-270.) Apparently there is a new Major (this is what there saying) in Officer Procurement who does not want to see any age waivers on pilot slots. Is that normal? You guys are giving great insight, thanks! Any idea where I can find the instruction on my own?
