no more bear crawls

I see where you're coming from, but I always felt most at risk of injury while transitioning between different exercises during beatings, since everyone was doing them so fast that no one cared if they kicked your face in while getting into a pushup position.

I would be willing to bet this is because of the preponderance of "unsanitary" goose shit that covers just about everything in Newport.

It can't be any worse than the rose garden at pensacola. Every stray cat within 20 miles shits in that thing and everyone wondered why they were getting pink eye.

It isn't just the goose crap, it's the shells that the geese break and leave on the PT field that shred your hands, then throw on some crap on some open wounds and I can see if they've "outlawed" it. I have complete faith in the Gunnys though, I have learned to never underestimate their imagination.

they now have a "bunny hop" whatever that is... might have replaced the bear crawl.

i have no idea what a bunny hop is but it sounds killer on the knees

Starjumpers........begin!!!!

Never have I come closer to passing out then when we did star-jumpers up and down the PT field.

Star-jumpers long enough could make a grown man cry.

OCS RPT is funny, and devious. Because the action itself doesn't seem too bad. But after about the 5 minute mark of doing it repeatedly and you want to die.

At least they didn't do burpees at OCS, burpees are evil personified.

Uh... we did "burpees" like 10X a day (at least my class did). We just called em "bends and thrusts".

Our DI made us do them like he thought he'd win a prize.

Exhaustion = doing 30 bends and thrusts, hoping that you're close to finishing, Candidate schmuckatelli doing something or other (even though the entire class is doing the same thing) and then having to start over at 0.

Then you do 70 more.

The dungeon was a pool of water after that day.

I can't think of a single exercise at OCS that had a better efficiency of giving you an overall body strength workout than bear-crawls. It's not just pain for pain's sake -- they worked.

are you kidding me? most of the stuff you do at OCS is pain for pains sake. they are trying to make you tough, not strong. i was one of the fastest bearcrawlers in my class, and even if done correctly it is terrible on your joints.

there is a reason Navy SEALS come to OCS and lose tons of weight and muscle mass. it's torture not strength training.

i've seen DI's get down and workout with their classes, but I have never seen a DI doing a bearcrawl, starjumper, crabwalk, etc.

Our class officer did those with us on the few days that we had strength and conditioning workouts. I personally didn't experience any joint pain from doing bear crawls, and I never heard of others complaining of it. Most pains came from running on the shitty ass road.

SEAL wannabes lose muscle mass and weight because the volume at OCS is nowhere near what they are accustomed to doing.

i didn't say SEAL wannabes. I said SEALS.

who? LT Martin? i didn't have much joint pain either. but it is unnatural for the upper body to take that kind of exercise.

you can lift weight with your back instead of your legs too, but that doesn't mean it is good for you. can you do it? yes. will it build some strength? yes. is it the best way to do it? no. do you run a risk of hurting yourself? yes.

I would be willing to bet this is because of the preponderance of "unsanitary" goose shit that covers just about everything in Newport. Yet another reason why it was not the best thought out plan to move OCS to RI. I'd be willing to bet it has more to do with infections and disease, than not wanting candidates to bear crawl. I say move it in to the gym.

Thats probably the reason right there. When I was going through, whenever the Safety Officer came in to talk to us, that was everyones #1 complaint. I used to love either bear crawling or doing push-ups in the goose crap and then going straight into the chow hall to eat without washing our hands. It was a bonus when there was actually hand sanitizer avialable at the doors.
