No more helo hoist

This is just a heads up for all people who haven't gotten to the last week of API yet.

My class was told by the bay ops instructors that the helo hoist in the bay has gone the way of redneck parasailing into extinction. The class before mine was the last to get to do it. Seems like only the older generations were blessed with some of the best stuff in API!

yeah. Just the pool and the stuff on and over the seawall. My class graduated last week, and we didn't do the hoist out in the bay.

Not lettin the coasties tea bag API Studs anymore?

Any idea why this is going away? Is there a $ issue or are the NASP helos needed elsewhere/nonexistent?

Not that it matters, it was more of a "Oh boy, we don't have to sit in a classroom today!" kinda of thing, but still kninda cool.

All they do now is the stuff in the pool. From what I understand we were told, the powers that be just figured there were better uses for the helos than spending time and money lifting students 5 feet in the air.

Dude, the helo hoist has been gone for a long time now....but I guess they at least confirmed that its gone, rather than the perpetual "xxx shaft on the helo broke and it is down for mx" story they fed us

Damn... my class lucked out -- we were the last ones to do redneck parasailing AND we had a successful day in the bay when it came to our Helo Hoist... rough...

That sucks! I thought the hoist was a nice little capoff to API, and I liked being able to hang out in the bay for a little while. (no pun intended)

The money argument makes sense, but there's gotta be some way to bring parasailing or the hoist back to API...if it eventually becomes 6 weeks of classroom and no outside work, its going to be BORRRRINGGGGG...

By the by, where's Uncle Fester to give us the staff side of things???

Meh. Redneck parasailing was kind of fun, but it's like practicing getting in a fight with the ground. Didn't get to do the helo hoist, but it looked pretty fun.

I went through API over a year ago and didn't do the helo hoist. I can understand why they took the redneck parasailing out of the syllabus. Its a great way to get studs hurt, with very little benefit in return. I hit the ground really hard one of my rides. I was very worried about jacking up my surgically repaired ankle that I came in on a waiver with.
