I jumpseated today on Delta, and the two pilots said that NWA's demands were not even close to what Delta would accept. And Delta's pilots have said they will NOT use an arbitrator. If it can't be agreed upon from the get-go, the deal's off.
Probably not -- 'cause the pension changed for the guys currently onboard from a defined benefit to a defined contribution model. Big difference.Does this mean more pilots will retire, like what happend before with AA
Well, after a few years of on and off merger talks between Northwest Airlines and Delta Airlines, it appears that both sides have reached a deal. Delta Airlines will retain the name and has a one year plan for a complete merge. There has not yet been an official announcement, however I have had a reliable "inside source" say that the announcement will be made Friday morning. Also, Continental Airlines and United Airlines have entered merger talks as well.
Roger that ... and it potentially gets even steeper. They've offered early-out's to more than 1/2 of their workforce. Also in the news,
Delta is cutting 2000 (non-pilot) jobs. United is looking to make cuts also.
Well ... here's the deal as I see it.keep in mind they are NOT trying to lay off 30k people, they are offering the early out to 30k hoping 2k will take the deal
future all depends on the cost of a barrel of oil
