If you are looking to comission in the Navy and get a scholarship, then you should have a good shot at VMI. The Navy unit there is rather small, so they are always looking for more people. If you get an NROTC scholarship, your pretty much guaranteed acceptance into VMI. Since your major focuses on IS VMI would be a great place. Especially with professors like General Zinny, General Farrell, etc. Col. Dabney even lectures and teaches there regularly. (Chesty Pullers Son-in-law)

VMI does have good study abroad programs, mostly with spots at Oxford. Alot of people go to Spain and Japan also. As far as living there, its Barracks life. It will suck, but you will make the best friends ever and everything afterwards is like one big vacation. The best way I can sum up VMI is that "Its the coolest thing I would never do again." ;) With everything combined I would say its probably the hardest school in the country. But well worth it. If you think you would like to apply or anything let me know and I can answer any questions you want.

A VMI guy saying his school is the hardest in the country, HAHAHAHA,don't make me laugh too hard.....I think someone had one too many beers the last time they went out into town.....

Wow, usually we got perspectives as sophmores so they could hear the freshmen getting smoke in the hallway above but got a feel for what life was like after that. When are you visiting?

probably after recognition (thanksgiving) you will soon be very tired of those hills. As a freshmen we ran to the cemetary on dole hill everyday and as Cadre Ir an mine there every day (made the running at OCS at least bearable.

Actually The Citadel does have an international relations/studies. It is a concentration within the Poly Sci major. Also it is one of the biggest concentrations within that major, my roommate is taking that course of study. If you have any questions at all let me know.

From what my roommate said it is a very good program. The profs are great and is a very well rounded program. Your a poly sci major, but mostly taking courses related to your concentration, which in this case is international relations. Since The Citadel is HUGE about graduating people in 4 years you will get into some of your major classes starting your sophomore year. I found that to be great, because if you are really intrested in something, it lets you get into it right away. I hope this information helps. If you need any other info please let me know.

Consider the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M also- it's similar to Norwich, from what I understand about Norwich, they have rolling admissions, and they're part of a large public university, so there are lots of civilian girls around.

I went through three years at the 'Wick as we called Norwich back in '98. Unfortunately I had to move home to care for my disabled Dad...long story. Anyway, Rook year was freakin' awesome, flat out. I had already been through Parris Island with the Corps and had a blast during Rook year. So much cool stuff to talk about when it comes to Norwich, the companies are like your family for the four years. So it's like a built in fraternity (I should know, I ended up joining a fraternity at my new school). No need for a job off-campus as long as you get financial aid - whihch they are awesome with! Besides, you'll be too busy. NU has a great 15-year plan and are striving to be one of the top Architechture schools in the country. As for VMI, my best friend went there and he always complained about how you never get off-campus - even during your Senior year. Maybe a few times, but overall he said VMI loves it's cadets to stay on campus. As for the Citadel, I met several guys from there when they were spending a year at Norwich during a swap of students that the two schools do. They all said that Norwich was slightly tougher and more strict than The Citadel. So the Wick is really somewhere between VMI and The Citadel as far as strictness goes. I cannot tell you how much I loved that school. It is the best choice, I really believe it. Besides, nothing beats Junior weekend - ask about it if you don't know when you are up there. Nothing beats going up to Montreal on the weekends starting your Sophomore year. Montreal is the most european city on this continent and since you're French. you'd love it. Can't say I care too much for the Frogs, but I loved Montreal. Good luck.

Ah, the memories

I attended NU my freshmen year as a NROTC student, but I was able to be a civilian instead of the Corps of Cadets. As beautiful of an area that surrounds Northfield, I transferred to a university with a warmer climate.

Memories of NU.... Awesome hockey team! Dry campus so it sucks to be of age and have to sneak drinks on campus (so I have heard ;) ). Great area for snowboarding. Interesting types of people that come out of those mountains. Ice and hills make for great walking experiences. 'FU wars' at 3am between Cadets and Civies as they shout across the parade ground. Loud canons waking me up.....gosh why can't those cadets be quiet? Dole Hill was a good workout. Small campus meant a short walk between classes and more time to get a nap in before the next class. Dang Rooks always falling asleep in class. Personable faculty. You will miss downtown if you wink.....admissions laughed at me when I asked where the nearest Subway was. I have more, but you can always message me rubicon on AIM if you have specific questions.

Like I said, I was only there for a year and as a civilian NROTC. However, my wife did 4 years there as a Cadet, so we have unique perspectives.

Don't sweat the admissions though, I walked in there and was accepted the same day. My wife was accepted just by a phone call application.

Those guys were smoking crack or blowing smoke up your skirt. I spent 4 days at Norwich when I was looking to go there and it was as nowhere near as strict as what I went through at school. Your Rook time only lasts half a year, half the time of any other military school.

Wait, why the heck am I arguing which school is better, aren't I suppose to be mature and above such stupid arguments? Wait, I am in DC now, I guess I am just acting like everyone else here...... :D

Nobody's mentioned it yet, but another school with a corps of cadets within a regular university is Virginia Tech. Check it out at www.vtcc.vt.edu
