I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to bounce back here about travel. What is everyone's opinion on travelling to Cuba prior to OCS? Is it alright to do so now considering we're normalizing relations with Cuba?

Probably not the best idea, even though we have eased travel restrictions they aren't fully lifted yet and that includes just plain tourism (legally):

Certianly might be an interesting trip but not worth the hassle of the interest it will garner on security investigations you will have to go through, in my opinion.

Sorry for the resurrection but I just returned from Europe, visiting 8 different countries and upon landing in the US on a layover for my return flight got word that I'd been picked up for SNA. I had my background interview the next business day and just added each country I'd seen, who I traveled with, and answered questions about, "did you meet any foreign contacts, etc etc". It was no issue. Just make sure that: your OR is informed that you will be unavailable by phone (or give him the appropriate contact information), and that you can say accurately how many days you were in each place and discuss what you were doing while you were there.
