I've been saving up thinking I could get through this thing without a USAA Starter, but it looks like maybe not. Its hard to account for E5 income at OCS since I've heard it takes a while to even get those paychecks coming in.
You don't pay $3k up front. You buy your uniforms with 3 uniform cards, and pay back the money in the last week. You shouldn't have to take the USAA Starter Loan out to get through OCS Uniforms and your pay does come in by that time.

Allowance? I don't remember any allowance. AFAIK uniform allowances are only for enlisted. But I may be wrong.
We were given an $1800 stipend for uniforms. It doesn’t cover everything, but it makes a dent. You shouldn’t need a loan to pay for OCS though.

Now that you mention it I do remember an allowance, it shows up on your first LES after graduating. It's 400 bucks. Called UAE or something like that.

I feel like I've heard conflicting reports on this from different sources, here and elsewhere. How much money should we show up with? I've been living paycheck to paycheck.

I've seen that number, but the reason I ask is because of all the discussion here about these costs coming out of paychecks received at OCS. What I'm asking is how much is required on day zero. And I suppose, while I'm at it, what are we supposed to do if we can't bring that kind of money?
On day zero you need zero dollars. The website probably says bring $20 for a haircut, and I would do it just to be safe, but my $20 bill never left my pocket during check-in. You are given three loaded gift cards when you get there to use for uniform shop items, and then you pay them off at the end of OCS

Thank you. That's all I was after.

Aside from the banner announcing the issued sneakers, I have noticed the list itself is updated.

For women the most important change is now they are specific about sports bra and underwear color lol. I guess one too many females showed up with bright crazy bras that showed through the cheapy highlighter yellow PT shirts and wild underwear that showed through whites... and now they added compression shorts!! (I'm super excited about this one).
