The Gunnery Sergeant sounds like he eats 7.62 rounds for breakfast then washes them down with tears of the unborn. If someone told me he shoots lasers out of his eyes I'd probably laugh, but keep it in the back of my mind just to play it safe.
I dunno. The introduction class 12-79 got was a lot more abusive and tough. This guy is down right motivational. We were told that we were pieces of sh!t, lower then whale dung, we didn't belong in his Navy, we embarrassed him, we didn't know how to tie our shoes let along work as a team. HE would be deciding who was going to fly in the worlds greatest Navy and it wasn't going to be but a fraction of us. He was going to talk to recruiting command about the clear low quality of recruit stinking up his quarterdeck. We were not allowed to sit during "the" speech. During our introductory lesson many were individually singled out at points for personal abuse before anyone really knew what was expected of us. But the DIs HAL, and I had at AOCS were just as professional as those motivators are today. Once you were a candio, or anytime the duty belt and cover was off, they were approachable and inspirational. Like HAL said, things change, times were different. One has to wonder if RAF OCS looked like it does in this video over 20 years ago. Maybe they were closer to the current USN OCS.
