No one cares what direction your hands face for the pull ups.

As soon as possible. There is a lot of stuff you need to do before you can attend OCS (the PLC and OCC program both = OCS in case you didnt know). The process will take some time so get on it as soon as possible.

I'm not sure on this one, but I would strongly reccommend just working with an OSO from step 1.

Yes. The OCS staff let us do them either way. You can even switch while doing them if its easier for you and you think that you can get an extra one or two. This method has never worked for me (I think because my lats are much stronger than my biceps are so when the lats burn out I'm done) but I have seen a bunch of people do it.

Check out the forum on OCS for all kinds of moto gouge. (Moto = motivating, gouge = black market of information)

what state are you in? I can maybe get you the OSO contact info through my OSO.

If you are a JR now and will be gradding in 2008, I highly suggest you get to an OSO and get your packet together fast. You will either do PLC-Combined or OCC, either way, you are lookin at 10 weeks. Unless you are a 2009 grad, and then you will do 6 weeks now and 6 next summer.

Get us more information and we can get you loads of advice, help, comments, rude remarks, and funny stories...

You can do pull ups either way. The easiest way to increase them is using the Armstrong method (palms away), just because lats are a bigger muscle group than biceps. http://www.4mcd.usmc.mil/AOP/OSOHyattsville/Armstrong Pullup Program.htm
But go with what you're comfortable with. I still do it palms facing me.

Start talking to OSO's right away just so they can get your file started, as there's often some little discrepency that delays everyone by a week. ("Oh yeah, i forgot to mention I've been arrested for public urination" is not something you want to spring on your OSO the day before the board.)

As for the ASTB, I've never heard of a recruiter setting people up to take it. I don't even believe they have the ASTB test booklets. They can do the PFTs tho if you live far away from the OSO. If you want to email me I can actually forward you the ASTB book online, or you can go buy/download it. I'm at NapalmRat@gmail.com

I'm on PTAD at my OSO so I have nothing better to do. Woo! Go busy work!

right now im in my second semester of my freshman year. i live in kc and i went to talk to a recruiter but all he wanted to talk to me about was enlisting. and he said i had to go through him to talk to an OSO so i havent been back to him. i know there is an office in kc but i cant find any info for it.

ive been doing a workout for about a month. i started real easy. and im working my way up to 100 pushups 100 sit ups and 3 mile run in less than 18 mins..... a 300 on the pft. its a lot of work but definitely worth it. any of you guys tried the armstrong pull up workout?

Dont listen to the enlisted recruiter. Also pushups arent part of the PFT. You need to get 20 dead hang pullups to max out.

In my short time here at the OSO office I've seen a lot of enlisted recruiters trying to sell the "Reserve PLC" program to applicants. Saying they need to enlist as a reservist or 90 day reservist to get into PLC. It's not true. If you still can't find the OSO closest to you, go to http://officer.marines.com/page/Officer-Request-More-Information.jsp
It should send a lead to the OSO and he'll call you back.

The push ups aren't on the PFT but they will help you with pull ups if you're doing palm away. They are an integral part of the Armstrong plan that you do every morning.

Kickthetires, check your email, I sent you a copy of the ASTB book.

Definately...i tried armstrong without the pushups at first and only made small gains. Huge difference if you do them every morning.

what is considered competitive? and will your score stay with you all through flight school?....what i mean is will it affect whether you get your choice of jets, helos etc?
