Lovin' life....
Hello all,

I just got my scores today from the OAR and ASTB. 44, 5,6,5. I am applying for SNA, SNFO, and AMDO. I know some of you know already, but My GPA is 3.63, and for us Navy types, I am #1 E5 out of 85, Sailor of the year for my command, Sailor of the year for the E-2 Wing, dual warfare qualified, I am cleared by medical 100%, plenty of recs from 05's and 06's, and all I have left is the appraisal's...

How do you think I will fair with todays pick-up rates?

Thanks for all your help. This is a great website!

I'm not one of the experts, but based on what I've seen around here I'm pretty sure that the experienced guys would tell you to improve your test scores.

What is the lowest scores that you guys have seen for SNA and SNFO? Do you think they will weigh my background alittle more than others? I think the whole OAR and ASTB for prior enlisted is bogus anyways....

I'd say you're sitting pretty good right now. But.....it wouldn't hurt to bring those scores up if you have the opportunity to do so.

Thanks for your help.

If I am submitting in May, when would be my projected class up time if I got selected? How long did you guys have to wait after submitting to class up?

Depends on when they decide to send you....maybe immediately, maybe not for another 9 months.

Does anyone know if the boards are on hold while OCS is mocing to RI? Or are they going to continue to hold the boards and just back up the class dates?

I had a friend with scores similar to yours (I think; it's been a long time). She got SNFO, but flunked out in API, so take that for what it's worth.

What is the API phase? How long ago did she get picked up? Was she prior military? I am not worried about passing academically at OCS. Or any other reason either. I just think it is alittle bogus that the board chooses what you should qualify for based off of some tests. If you are prior military and your background and college academics show that you are worth picking...then what are the tests really for?.. ya know? Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Thanks!

Do a search. In short, Aviation Prefilight Indoctrination. A short 6 week school that is a firehose effect to a point. Teaches BASIC aviation knowledges, and water survival.

If you want to serve, it is just another hoop you must jump through. If you get in, the sooner you wrap your mind around the fact that there will be MANY things that seem stupid, bogus, or just plain silly, and you have to do them, the happier you will be.

*EDIT just realized you are in now. The LEAPEX hoops don't go away with being an Officer. You just have to deal with some new ones.

The ASTB shows that you have enough basic knoweldge to be trainable. With the amount of gouge that is out there, it should not be that hard.. HOWEVER, the OAR helps tone down the "grade inflation" that is inevitable with the gouge out there.

Some get picked up with lower OARs and some get pickep up with low GPAs. I believe the board looks at the "Total Package" once you get in the door to be looked at.

You are going to have to get over this notion that because you are prior military, certain things will not be required of you. Because they will. You will need to do many of the things that Tom, Dick, Harry, and Sally all had to do. You can either accept this or continue to allow it to bother you. But really, what's the point of letting it continue to bother you? It's not going to change anything.

I understand... thanks for the info.. I know it seems as if I am coming off as arrogant or alittle angry, but thats not the case. I am just trying to figure things out ya know?

I do believe that it is harder for a prior military to get picked up rather than a college grad straight from school.

Thanks for all your help guys. I really appreciate it.

Thanks MB. I really appreciate that info. I never looked at the tests that way before.
