I'd say you're sitting pretty good right now. But.....it wouldn't hurt to bring those scores up if you have the opportunity to do so.

Actually, it could hurt him...currently, if you retake the ASTB, they drop your old scores and use the new ones. Right now I'd say he's a borderline applicant, given his prior service, and has a good shot at being selected. However, if that ASTB falls any, particularly in the PFAR or FOFAR, he's in bad shape with only one chance to retake.

I say apply, cross your fingers, and count on the boards seeing your prior service as solid evidence of your commitment. If you get non-select this time, take the ASTB again, and reapply. That's my $.02

Please re-read my post you responded to. I didn't say it wouldn't hurt to take the test again. I said it wouldn't hurt to bring the scores up.

As for him being "borderline," do you realize what a big deal it is to be not only command Sailor of the Year, but also Wing Sailor of the Year and be rated be the #1 EP out of 85 E-5's...?

Hello,
I have my appraisal board tommorow and I could use some advice.
I am applying for Pilot, NFO, and AMDO. What type of questions do you feel that they will ask?

Thanks for your help.

Read: "Right now I'd say he's a borderline applicant, given his prior service, and has a good shot at being selected"

probably should have said

Right now I'd say he's a borderline applicant, BUT given his prior service, he has a good shot at being selected"

Not trying to s**t on this guy's service record in any way. BUT...If the ASTB weren't a big deal, you'd see far fewer qualified guys get a non-select. I think he's got a good shot; however, we all know that the ASTB weighs much more heavily than most would like to admit. While a low ASTB may not keep you out, especially if you have the prior stats like this guy does, I'm simply saying that a kick-ass ASTB (coupled with a solid package) makes you almost impossible to reject. In other words, if he doesn't get selected, it's almost certainly ASTB related...and all he should do is retest, reapply, and get ready for OCS.

Kevo,

I agree with you. I do feel that the only problem with my package is the ASTB. If I do not get a select, then my plan is to retake and reapply. Hopefully the board will be leaniant. Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the critique, but I stand by what I said.

I am correct in saying that the NFO slots are overflooded right now? That is what I am hearing in my community at work...

It's an accordion - always has been. You can't game it or time it, and your gouge about an NFO backlog is almost certainly wrong, IMO. Whatever the state of things might be at NASC, it has little influence on current applicants.

Thanks Brett,

There is 3 of us applying at our command right now. But I am the only one applying for anything Aviation. The other is telling me NFO's were full. The only reason I beleived him was because he is our Command CC.

With all due respect to your CCC, they are in no position to speculate about that kind of thing. As others have suggested, apply for the designators you think you'd like to do for the rest of your career. If you like aviation, apply for Pilot and NFO - it's all good. :D

Thats what I did. Thanks Brett.

Any word on when the Boardsa are going to meet next? My package will not be getting submitted at least until the beginning of June. Is that too late?

The CCC is great for many things. Officer programs is not one of them.

Everything went well with my Interviews. I had the E2 Wing Commodore (CAPT), E2 Squadron XO(CDR), Wing SUPPO (LCDR), and my OIC(CDR) on my board. All 10's and very good write-ups.. All that is left is my CO's endorsement, and then the package is off to Millington. I will let everyone know when I find somehting out. Thanks for all your help everyone!

I have a few pretty basic questions. Can someone help me out?
1) I am going to do MEPS this upcoming week, can anybody tell me what to expect. More specifically time, what type of evaluations and any advice anyone has.
2) I have been pro-rec'd SNA and my recruiter told me that I will be attending OCS in RI and then going down to AOCS in Pcola. Is this the normal shakeout or is there reason for concern like maybe my pro-rec isnt all it seems. Also will I be in RI for the full 12 weeks and then an additional 4 weeks in Pcola or 12 weeks in total or some other breakup.
3) I am in exceptional physical condition and am comfortable in the water and see no problem passing the swim test and abandon ship drill, I am concerned about the survival float and garment inflation. My prep book is fairly vague as to what these two assessments actually are and how to prepare for them. Anybody with knowledge have any suggestions.

Thanks
