The pay scales are before taxes. Your total pay would depend on if you are married and and are recieving a housing allowance. If you are singel, I wouldn't imagine while there that you are elegible for the housing allowance.

I don't think they do paper pay checks anymore, at all across the board. In the little over four years I was in, I never once heard of anyone getting a paper pay check, it was all direct deposit. The only paper checks I saw were for travel, perdium and stuff like that.
