I heard through the grapevine, that even when your in flight school you have a slight chance you an get out. If you are doing piss poor and just can't hack it. The Captain I'm working with said one of his friends simply DOR'd from pensacola a long time ago, and he was out, no fight or nothen. Don't know how or when this could apply, but found it interesting.

Not in this Marine Corps. You can DOR/attrite, but the Corps will still use you for at least the remainder of your contract.

Not necessarily true. If you want to drop from TBS they will let you go. You would have to meet the Col several times (and probably have multiple meetings with your SPC and Company CO first), and it wouldn't be an overnight process, but they would let you go. It happened with 2 people in my TBS company, and one in my platoon. You might hang around mike company for a while, but they won't keep you for 4 years.

EDIT: I realize now you were referring to DORing or attriting from flight school, and not TBS. In which case, you are right... I have never heard of someone getting out after DORing or attriting from flight school.

You say "sent to infantry" as if it was forced upon him... Was this the case? If so that's strange, I hadn't heard of them ever forcing people into grunts... that always seemed like more of an Army thing.

I really don't know, he was one motivated Marine, he was not the kind of guy that would accept anything that would put him on a desk. I think that if he was not going to fly he wanted to be at the front with the grunts.
He was very dissapoited but really motivated because he was given the opportunity to lead men.....one hell of a guy, wsnder how he's doing.

Don't know the stats, how it works, etc., but it appears that a good percentage of those who attrite from flight school are being kept in the aviation community (looks like a lot of AMOs).

Of course, I have a good buddy on staff at IOC who sees a couple of Fallen Angels who have volunteered for IOC. Whatever floats your boat.
