So now my report date to P-cola is 28 march and I was arranging some movers to come by and move my household goods at the personal property office in Seal Beach down here in SoCal but I was told that since I was being sent to a "temporary training command" I would be allowed to move a total of 600 lbs, no furniture. I told the Property office at Seal Beach that a lotta ensigns who made the same PCS move before me from UCLA and USC to P-cola were able to move their stuff just fine. They said that they found it strange as well, but the order came direct from Pensacola. Did anyone else get this same BS message when they arranged their PCS moves ?

That's correct. The other ensigns you speak of were probably married with follow on orders to primary, or they were single and managed to get follow on orders.

What? Now I'm not sure, but I don't think it was that way back when I moved down there. Are you certain Trvs? If you have follow on orders to somewhere I could see them not moving you (possibly), but unless you are going TAD for some reason I don't see them not moving you.

I'd call the people who sent "the order."

Good luck (or have fun storing your stuff then flying back just to have it packed out :)).

It's not that they won't move you. They won't move 10,000 lbs (or whatever the O1 entitlement is) to a location where you will be (supposedly) for only 6 weeks. Therefore, you're limited to moving only 600 lbs. Now if you have follow on orders, then you can move x,000 lbs to your ultimate duty station.

If I remember correctly, you can have the rest of your stuff put in storage and then the movers can just pack it up and ship it to you after you receive your follow on orders without having to fly back.

Yeup, the navy pulled that on me, while my BU buddies got a PCS (and they didn't have follow on orders.) WTF^^

Do they pull the same thing with the SNAs who get sent to Moody and Vance (saying that they are there for less then 6 months without follow on orders)???

You can have your stuff put in storage while you're at Pcola for API and then have it moved to your ultimate duty station, ie Corpus. Not sure about Vance or Moody, but I imagine its the same. Sucks to be without your stuff, but they will move it at a later date.

Wow, that really sucks. You'd think the least they could do would be to not transfer people until an API slot was imminent.

That would be nice, but hell no.

If your buddies had orders to just API with no follow on, and they got a full household goods move, then someone at the household goods office wasn't paying attention to what they were doing. They should not have gotten a full move with orders to just API.

When I went to the household goods office, they said that the reason I was PCS was because I had been at NROTC for more than ... 6 mos? some amt of time ... she was under the impression that it had to be PCS after a certain amt of time - and not the time at API, but the time you were stashed.

my orders also said "permanent change of station" ... but that might be because of the 6 mos thing...

She's retarded. Where you are transferring from does matter, but not in your case. As a single guy you are entitled to move 600 lbs at govt expense to Pensacola and the rest can be sent to your duty station for Primary after you complete API.

Exactly

Ok, so if I'm restricted to 600 lbs, that's just the maximum total weight of the household goods move right ? If I wanted to do a partial DITY, would the weight of stuff in my car also count to that 600 lbs as well ?

No, the stuff in your car doesn't have to count against it, but you won't be reimbursed for that stuff. That 600 lbs is it total.
