My second question was basically how long is just the training at Pensacola, without any waiting. But you are making it sound like there is always some waiting involved before NIFE.

Yes, that is most of the wait. You check in to NASP after OCS/TBS/NROTC, wait there, do NIFE at NASP, then either go to Corpus or wait even more before going to Whiting.

I would prefer that she comes. She is a veterinarian, so the problem is that she can’t easily job hop all the time. Probably needs to stay a minimum of 6-9 months.
That’s why I was thinking if I ever end up going to a location where I won’t be there that long, it’s not worth it for her to come with.

Current wait times (anecdotal so YMMV):
USN to NIFE = 4-5 mo
USMC to NIFE = 7 mo
USCG and IMTs to NIFE = ??? (but quick)
Flight Docs/USN Post Grad to NIFE = ASAP
USN to Primary (Whiting) = ~3 mo.
USMC to Primary (Whiting) = ~1 mo.
USCG to Primary (Whiting) = ~2 wk - 1 mo.
IMT and Flight Docs to Primary (Whiting) = Pretty fast
No SA on Corpus. It's gonna change once you get down here though. Summers are usually slower since you have the USNA/ROTC rush in conjunction with tropical weather systems backing things up.

There's a non-zero probability of the following happening which would extend your time in Pcola greatly:
- You go med down
- You get helos
- You wait between primary and advanced
- You attrite and sit around for resdesignation

So 26 months and 3 PCS's to get your Wings of Gold, correct?
Is that fairly consistent amongst those that track to helicopters, fighters, or heavies?
Heavies are the fastest track usually. Helos second fastest, fighters by far the longest.
My helo track was:
5 months A-Pool, IFS, API in Pensacola
8 months in Corpus for primary
6.5 months Whiting for advanced (helos)
I winged as an O-1 with plenty of time to spare. Put on O-2 a quarter of the way through the FRS.
