At my last eye appointment I didn't think to ask the doc what my eyesight was on the 20/20 scale. Is there a way to conver my contact perscription to a rough guess? My contact perscription is -1.50 if that helps, if not I guess I'll just have to call him up. Thanks!

I asked my optomotrist the same question, and he said that they don't really care what the 20/XX reading is. The only thing they look at is the diopter measurement (you said its -1.50 for you) which states how much refractive error you have, and how to make the lenses.

They are just different ways of saying the same basic thing (badness? of your eyes), although the diopter measurement is the on they need to know.

I was just curious to know if my eyes are within the limits required by the af or navy, they use the 20/xx format, i.e. 20/40 for the navy or 20/70 for the af

kabttu, I don't think the conversion from -1.5 diopters puts you within 20/70. However, check online for eyecharts. I printed one out from an online site after having PRK surgery in order to check my progress. I forget what site it was, but there were several different ones.
