Phrog on a Stick...

Wow...

When I started flying the 60B my first sight on NS Mayport was the Bravo on a stick.. Just never seemed that odd to me..

IIRC, it was a PAX River bird that had been "Stricken" for some reason..

What is odd is there are NO other birds that flew out of NRB there.. Just a lone bravo.

H2, A4, etc...

our old CO told us all a story about taking a lightning strike in a -B while flying at Pax (w/ one of the VX squadrons)......they barely made the field, and according to him, when they got on deck they *noticed* that the composite rotor blades had parted due to the lightning melting the resin. Apparently the vibrations from the parting blades made it almost uncontrollable on descent.....as you could probably imagine. Not sure if this type of thing would warrant striking an aircraft (vs replacing the damaged components) but maybe it is the same a/c....

I resemble that remark.....

This what you're thinking of or is too painful? Don't worry. Won't be long until Prowlers join them!

and they do this why?

Makes the Navy look good (doing good for the enviroment) and it is an easy way to get rid of old planes.......and make sure they could never be used again.......;)

They do it with old tanks and armored vehicles too. History or discovery did a show on how they demilitarize and dehazmat the old vehicles and dump them to make artificial reefs.

Think of it as the Navy giving back for all the Jet Fuel, Ordnance, and non-demiliterized/dehazmat aircraft they dumped in the sea.

Zilch

This...is...Caketown!
Actually, if you want to see some sad old airframes, Camp Blanding near Gainesville has an A-6 and A-7 that look like the skin is about to come off.

Speaking of A-7's, I was on a trip from Florida to Detroit and saw two A-7's on sticks somewhere between here and there, within 30 minues of eachother. Both looked like sh!t and made me want to cry. One of them was set up near a damn flea market and had nothing but white paint on it. I rued.

My only questions are:

Where do I get to dive it?
How deep is it?

It's Intruder Reef. Many of the A6's are from VA-304, my last squadron. One of our former squadronmates, now a Delta Captain, has a dive boat and takes people out to Intruder Reef. PM me and I'll send you his contact info.
