Pilot Board for July 2012

Based on my personal experience, you could probably get one in. However, I also thought mine was in then found out the one waiver I needed was taking way longer than expected, so dont count your chickens. From start to finish, I walked into the recruiters on March 15 and had a COMPLETED application with waiver on April 8. Good luck!

That's good news for me then how soon would an application for this board be due?

Is it too late to begin an application for this July board? I have made my decision to pursue this and I am about to talk to a recruiter to begin the process.

Up for the April board and my process took me about five months. I am going to school on the other side of the country from my NRD so the process was a bit longer for me than average. I went to MEPs etc beforehand and had about 11 LORs to wait on so no I think you should be able to do it if you are really on top of it. A lot of it depends on how quickly you can get forms, documents etc to your recruiter, and how fast you complete your SF86. Go talk to a recruiter and ask them if they think it's doable. Even if it isn't, you'll have your package ready early for the board following July. You'll also need to start studying soon for your ASTB if you haven't (I assume you haven't) taken it already.

And dont worry too much about the ASTB, its really not hard. A week of studying and most people would do fine. Its not the SATs or GREs. And you can take it 3 times so if your scores are not what you want by the July board then just wait and take em again.

Just wondering what dates the board is scheduled. That is if anyone knows; or more importantly, when the cut-off would be. I have to get some things squared away in a very short timeframe to hopefully apply for this board. I am waiting to hear from my recruiter regarding the April Intel board that didn't happen (assuming non-select), so I figured I would ask them then. Regardless, they seem to be pretty out of the know regarding dates and it might be as a result of what NavyOffRec mentioned as being kept out of the loop from higher up. I am afraid if I wait to act on their confirmation that I would be too late to get everything together.

On a side note, NavyOffRec, would you be able to offer information regarding putting together the packet again for the SNA board. Can they use some of the stuff that was for my Intel application package? I am assuming some things would change, such as the ASPR, but I have some LOR’s that were mighty difficult to get people tracked down and sign. If they were signed in mid-February is that current enough?

Thank you to all for any info! Here’s to hoping this might be the one!!!

Almost everything could be re-used if the items were dated in Feb I would use them again so probably the only thing you would have to redo is the APSR.

The deadline should be mid June I don't have the paper in front of me.

A heads up was given by NRC, they are looking at moving the board deadline from 4 weeks before board to 6 weeks before board, don't know when the word will come out but it may be short notice.

NavyOffRec,

I have been getting a lot of conflicting information about letters of completion and applying for OCS (active duty). I have read that only a conferred degree will be allowed to submit a package. I have also read on this site that a “letter of completion” will do the trick and allow ones package to go to board. I ask this because I finish my classes 13 May 12 but my degree will not get conferred until 30 May 12 and I was wondering if I would even make the cutoff for this next board for SNA. (If they move it up to 6 weeks from 4 weeks)

The AD rules are different than those that are reserve or civilian, the fact is the 1420 is obsolete with quite a bit of bad info, but they can still hold you to it.

I would believe you will make the cutoff.

I needed to get a transcript with my "degree conferred" date before my application was complete. I had a degree completion letter but he asked for the transcript. Not sure if that was just his way of making sure it wouldn't get held up, or if that was required? I'm a civilian though.

That is not required for submission for reserve or civilian, we can now put people up for board 1 year prior to graduation, all he would have needed is a letter saying upon completetion of classes you will meet requirements for graduation, or they could have filled out the Academic Degree Completion Plan form that we have.
