From my experience, at least, I wouldn't say that. A couple guys in my juniors platoon had friends/relatives high up (O-6 and up) in the brass and didn't get any special treatment. Unless of course, if you mean the fewer ranking people you know, the better, in which case I would tend to agree, as the S.I.'s have less to use against you.

For you motivators, don't lose that. It will serve you well. You'll take crap for it, but it might save your career and/or life someday. The guys who aren't excited about training generally write new resume's after 4-8 years. Good luck.
