Only to qualify as an actual federal law enforcement agent (go to FLETC, etc.). Pays to be an E-2 guy, as "Detection Systems Specialist" is the equiv of being a mission specialist on the shuttle. Nope, not a pilot astronaut in the same sense, but more of a technical specialist. Granted, my death-dealing frisbee will never zorch at the speed of heat, but being an E-2 CICO pays in the long run. CBP (USCS) DSS's aren't considered members of the "Federal Law Enforcement Retirement System" and not subject to the same rules. Theoretically means I could finish my 20 and move on to Customs AEW P-3s flying the same weapon system I fly now (It's a P-3 with an E-2C+ setup in the back).
