PRK After Pro Rec SNA?

Ya, I am sure there is gonna be another long process to deal with it for the waiver. But I might as well get used to it. This is only the beginning. For now I am thrilled I am gonna be out of contacts soon, after having needed glasses since I was 7 or 8 years old.

I was told by a Senior Chief in Millington.

This guy ultimately makes the decisions, he knows certain rules that your recruiter may not be familiar with.

Listen to Poo, GET PRK BEFORE YOU APPLY. Even if you don't get selected, you won't be disappointed in getting it done anyways. Its the best money I've ever spent.

Interesting. I'm applying for an IW DCO slot and I asked my OR about getting LASIK'd. His answer, paraphrased: "I can't tell you what to do, but it can be an issue with the medical folks. Do what's best for you and your family."

I interpreted that to mean "if you get LASIK the med folks may hose your application", so I'm holding off until after I see the board results.

Hi Paul,

Just to warn you, DO NOT GET LASIK!!! It will permanently DQ you as a SNA and SNFO. The only vision correction surgery that is currently approved by the Navy is PRK. The results are the same, but the procedure is different. Browse the website and talk to your recruiter about the regulations regarding this procedure. Good Luck!

It's been done before and when I was paranoid in your situation, my recruiter said NO! I know someone on this board got it done by sheer FLUKE. You will probably get a "no" as well, if you ask. Good luck.

Sorry Paul, I skimmed over the part that said you were applying IW. I'm not sure about vision regs for communities other than aviation. 'Lasik' is an evil word for us aviation folks. :icon_rage
