alright, I really wanted to add something before the previous thread was closed.

I have a cousin (viper pilot) who was recurited for the same spot as said selectee. She basically said that they told her it would be in her best interests to "try out" for the team. Seems there is more than a little
"higher up" agenda going on.

Now the way the Blues recruit ....no one can force them to accept anyone that the team does not think fits the mold. I wonder if the Navy will start sending out hints that it wants a female Blue. I personally think it would be a bad move on the Navy's part to try and Force a mold. That being said, I know there are qualified ladies out there for the job....its whether they want it and can be recruited legitimately for it.

That's the key, recruiting a female pilot who has the skill as opposed to simply recruiting a female pilot. They are out there but obviously those with the talent have got to want to be a Blue. So I agree, forcing the mold could cause problems or at least issues if something happens. Kind of along the lines of the first two female tomcat pilots that some felt were rushed through. I have no first hand knowledge of what went on with that, just monday morning heresay. After Hultgreen was killed, the controversy raged. Could be the same in this case though I don't believe there is a hurry up and rush to get a female pilot on the Blues like there was to get a female fighter pilot after the Navy's image was tarnished at Tailhook 91.

I was an FRS instructor in VF-124 when that happened. It was ugly.
Lots of pressure to graduate them, special AOMs, etc....
Saw it very first hand...flew with them...and couldn't do anything about it.

I was in CVW-11 when that happened. Knew the CAG paddles that finally drew the line on "Pilot #2". :(

I figured you might of known the story. I actually met both of them while I was stashed at Top Gun in San Dog, awaiting flight school.

yeah it would be different though because they would have already proved themselves as competent aviators. Im was thinking more along the lines of a forced placement......someone who had not gone through the normal recruitment process and wanted to be there. Really, lets face it....that is a but load of pressure for any pilot let alone being the first female. I wonder how many ladies have applied for the Blues to date?

Mayday

I thought that was the recline!
I know of one who soon will...very qualified too from what I've heard. Daughter of a former Boss as well as being just plain skilled. If any female gets it she will.

... The first chick Angel will be you're old roomie ...

Oh, and Whiting currently has a ground school instructor that I *think* was the first female Fat Albert pilot ... she didn't stick around long. Apparently wasn't into the whole political tea bagging that had to occur on a regular basis. Those are my words, not hers.

haha....dont know if that is a goal of hers....but quite possible...you never know. **** I'm sure she is just as worried about just getting our wings at this point. baby steps grasshopper....baby steps.

hey man hows it going?....thanks for cleaning up my computer and giving me some time wasting games down in Corpus. YOu still around there?? Speaking of "Her"...did you hear about her old drinking buddy from UT??? Sounds like she could be in a lot of trouble.

Naw, I winged in March. I'm down here in Clearwater, FL about to enter my 7th week of 130 school at a civilian company.

Jess is flying out to Jacksonville Thursday for the avdet.. guess they need some planes and she needs like 5 hops of her air nav stuff or something? I'm going to head over Friday and hang out.

And yeah.. Courtney aint the brightest .. not really sure how she's a deserter and can't find her..? I think there's more to the story.. either that, or the Marine reserves simply aren't right bright.

How are things going with you?

not too bad...had a horid first flight today....worst one since i got here....but the second one was much better....I'm in Fams right now....should solo sometime next week or the week after.....Scheduling here sucks though......every flight is a rust breaker if you know what I mean.

I think there is a CQ det going down to Jack....I dont know how that is working for her...she might be doing some SDO or something.....I though about doing that....but the spots were already taken.

Yeah, she's doing the SDO... she didn't want to. Wanted to do her xc to Tampa.. got tapped to go to Jacks.. she's cool with it now.

Well, gotta run.. final systems exam in the AM.. be cool and stay in touch.. I see you're a posting whore now.. so shouldn't be a problem.

Female T-Bird??? Bottom line for me:
Who cares what the sex is if he/she/it does their job and carries their weight ??? If "they" don't .... they will go the way of Lt Kara Hultgren ..... 'nuff said???

A4s, no offense meant by this comment, but amazing hearing that from your "generation" in the Navy... For the rest of us, women in the wardroom, on ship, in the aircraft have been a part of our training and day to day life in the Navy, and don't think anything of it.
