I "came up" in the trasition period when the first women Naval Aviators (early '70's?) were being hand picked, their physical standards were different (as in easier -- how about today??), their instructors were hand picked (definitely) , and sometimes their grades were "hand picked" as well (!!) ..... but based on your observation --- I am suprised that this is even a topic of discussion with today's Aviator population. It's a done deal ....
I originally looked askance at women Naval Aviators as did many/most of my male peer group (what a shock!!). I have since flown with and instructed many women pilots over the years in the airlines and I have found one great similarity they have with their male counterparts:
Some fly like "Blue Angels" .... most are average .... some fly like plumbers.
