Question about Future Boards and LORs

I understand all of the above, but my chance is 0% if I don't apply. Ultimately my goal is to commission and yes, ideally I'd love to stay in the weather career, but if I commission in another job than that's fine. Hell, I may end up liking that job better. As I mentioned before, there are no future AF boards, which mean my chances for AF, at this point in time, is 0%. So, I'm exploring other options.

very true, just remember at this point they have no plans to actually have any SWO-OCEANO or straight OCEANO boards, your best bet is SWO

Thanks. Good to know. Honestly, how easy/hard would it be to get back into weather after I earned my swo pin? I do have the experience/degree for weather.

Go SWO with the mindset of staying SWO.

Transfers after your SWO pin to any community is honestly tougher than just going directly via OCS or class standing via NROTC/USNA.

Somewhere I have the numbers they allow to lateral transfer into OCEANO, but they are very few, just like applying via OCS.

What is more important being an Officer or being in the Oceanography/Meterology field? If you want the field more stay where you are at, there are many people that are trying to get into Oceano with the exact degrees they are looking for and many with graduate degrees, so it will be hard to do, become a SWO is much more possible, be happy with that and see what happens later.

Being an officer is more important to me. However, I've been in the military to know better to make sure I know what I'm getting myself into. I just want to know what options are available to me (and especially let me husband and two kids know).

If you find that numbers that would be great!

Last question, if they allow regular SWO transfer over to OCEANO, just the same as the SWO-OCEANO people, why does that program exist? Is it more the SWO-OCEANO folks are guaranteed to go into OCEANO, while regular SWO are not and it's the luck of the draw?

Forgive my ignorance...

from all sources FY12 there were 14 SWO-Oceans option, and 5 from all sources for OCEANO
lateral transfers for FY12 was 8

now all numbers that I can see are going down, and have for the last several years so I would guess the trend would be the same.

SWO-OCEANO are selected by the IDC, SWO's are not, basically lateral transfers are a way to fix manning at a certain year group and they have to go to a lateral transfer board, this is something I know someone else can explain better, but that is why some years they take more and some years they take less.
