Damn, Brett... Hope I didn't send you into an early midlife crisis or anything. hahaha I'd say 34 was still early 30s (but barely). Our QARs in my enlisted days were always SSGT/GYSGT and had generally been in for at least 10-12 years.
Midlife crisis? No risk of that. As can be seen on AW, I act like I'm 12 most of the time anyway. I was an E-6 QAR, but made that in 6 years, then got picked up for OCS a couple years later. Same guy who was my QAO would later be the AMO during my DIVO tour across the country in another community - that was pretty cool.

Good times,

Brett

If you're just that damn good, you can be a QAR (and a SSgt) in <7 years...hmmm...

I dunno man.. I can see you going off and buying a red, early 90's mazda miata, and joining one of those national, cross country miata clubs. :icon_wink

Miata? How dare you, sir! HOW DARE YOU!!! :D

With a b!tchin' jacked up Jeep and a cool motorcycle, I think I'm good on toys. Mid-life crises are for married guys anyway.

I dunno, Brett... If I were you, I'd hunt down Godspeed and beat him senseless. The miata comment would have been too much for me to bear. THEM'S FIGHTIN' WORDS!!!

While it's definitely possible (but pretty rare) to pick up SSGT and become a QAR in under 7, that person would still have to be pretty sh!thot in either of the squadrons I was in. Maybe it was just the AMO's policy (the same guy transferred to my second unit at the same time I did), but he always exercised veto power if he thought someone was too inexperienced, etc. I was a pretty rare exception as an AVI CDQAR as young as I was.

No, no, no. That's just typical Godspeed shenanigans. No worries.

I'll be in the Puget Sound next weekend (if you're there) for Prowler Ball - I'll challenge you to a bout of "feats of strength."

Hey Brett, you know a guy named (callsign) Mongo?
Yeah, there are actually a couple guys in the community with that C/S. You talking about a big, tall dumb guy?

I'd be more than happy to partake, except I am in Daytona going to school.
I'll be up in that neck of the woods for a weekend in August, but other than that, just down in FL. I accept your challenge, however it must be prolonged. :D

The world is full of Mongos. I know 2 guys with 46 backgrounds called Mongo. Funny thing is they're both named "Chris," too.

He was tall--but I'm only 5' 8" so everyone is tall to me--and stocky, but I wouldn't say he was dumb. He wasn't as smart as me of course, but not dumb. For the life of me, I can't remember his name. I stood watch with him on the Lincoln, but only called him Mongo. That's all he went by. He's an O-4 now up in Whidbey somewhere--the TAO graveyard as we called it since that seemed to be where all the TAO's went to after their tour on the Lincoln.
