Definitely stand up, it's the right thing to do. The following picture says it all.

I figured as much. Nothing's as much fun as bugging the sh!t out of shoes by calling them "boats", helo guys by saying "chopper", etc.

I admit, that for a laugh, I deliberately do not use proper nautical terminology around my grunt bros. You'd think they'd eventually get that I'm fvcking with them.

"Has anybody seen my hat?"

"That's COVER, dumbass!"

"Yeah, whatever."

Some Marines don't sport high and tights? How come I have never seen this?

Becasue you hvaent made it out of OCS yet. Some Marines wear their hair longer than DIs and Candidates. At places like OCS everyone get the hair cut a little higher and a little tighter. Most of you Fleet guys will wear a Medium reg or even a low reg.
TBS is prett high and tighty too but flight school wont be,

Good comprimise: if you know when the song's gonna be played, stand in the back of the room. You won't draw attention to yourself, and you'll be doing the right thing for the right reason. This was my strategy when my sister played the Hymn at a piano recital. And yes, get a conservative (not dorky) haircut.

Yeah if you walk around any Marine base you will notice that less than 50% actually wear a high and tight... most go medium reg., some go low reg. If you ever see any recon or force recon guys around you'll notice the "super low" low reg.... and they'll probably have a mop of hair. Don't give them any *hit about it though 'cause they'll probably have you zip tied and sucking on an MRE spoon in about 1.1 seconds. A good compromise if you want to be "motivated" yet retain some hair length is the "high regulation" ... which still comes up high, but allows for some growage.... my 2c ... I agree with what the others said...stand tall and look professional.

Stand for all of them! Stand because you are an American. Stand because you desire to one day be called a Marine. Stand because you can and many who have worn the uniforms of the American military will never stand again. Everytime is the right time to show respect for the gifts this country and your military, provides. Semper Fi
