ok, this one's kind of out there, but still being a lowly college student just headed to Juniors, and with no family in the service, it's something i don't know anything about:

if you're a Marine on the Blue Angels (pilot or crew), would you retain an e-mail address @usmc.mil or would it be @navysomething, @usn or something like that. or do the blues get their own @?

pretty out there, but i'm curious.

The short answer I can give you is: I don't know. However, I'll take a guess. Most major commands (with the exception of NAS JAX) are now on NMCI (Navy-Marine Corps Internet) which is a @navy.mil address. It's a world wide system that allows you to log on any computer anywhere that's on the network and see your files and email. In theory, an awesome system, yet not the best executed.

So I would imagine that the Blues are now on NMCI since at least most of PNS is also on it. The account follows you where ever you go, from command to command, as long as you can access the network. Hope that helped.

To answer you question, it depends on where your command is located. If you are on a shore facility, you will get a .navy.mil/.usmc.mil email account. Once you have an NMCI seat (account), you will reatain it for as long as you are in the military. If you are on a ship/squadron, you will have a .vfaXXX.navy.mi/.vmaq4.usmc.mil/.cvn77.navy.mil/ etc. I am currently on a ship and I also have an NMCI account. I have forwarded my NMCI email to the boat. Hope this answers your questions. Looking at www.blueangels.navy.mil, it appears that the Public Affairs Officer's email is a .navy.mil address.

Good point. I was ignoring the whole ship email thing. Probably trying to suppress the whole experience.... ;)
