Is this a one off or are they really handling the sea that badly?

I don't remember Grumman stuff looking that ugly

First off, it looks like the colors on that pic are a bit off overall, with the khaki shirts looking kinda orange-ish.

Secondly, did you actually ever see operational Navy Grumman aircraft like the F-14 or EA-6B? Most of them looked pretty damn rough.

Yes, and I don't remember them looking that bad. Maybe it's the difference between glass and flat paint?
Same happened when helos went from glass to flat (supposedly low IR) paint.

You mean gloss? The flat paint definitely looks worse, there was a dramatic difference between the EP-3's (gloss) when they sat next to one of our P-3 bounce birds (flat, before they went back to gloss again) on the ramp with the EP-3 looking nice and clean...ish, while the P-3 looked like it was headed to rehab. Rain seemed to make 'em look worse, and Whidbey that was more often than not.

This is how I remember the Prowler, in all her funky glory.

#1 agreed but other photos are showing the same thing.

#2 - yes everytime they returned to Alameda (70s 80s 90s) and they usually had stains from everywhere that would leak, black, grey reddish but never entire panels looking sunburnt.

Some of the recent eagles returning are what i remember but never discoloration to this extentScreenshot_20250812_092057_Samsung Internet.jpg
