Re-designation after Final Select?

So here's my situation...I've been Pro Rec'd for Supply into the BDCP. I'm fine with it, but I really want Intel, and I KNOW I have a shot at it. My OAR is 65, and with a GPA of 3.94.

I've been told that BDCPers can do Final Select, actually get into the program and then re-designate down the line? i.e., I accept my Supply BDCP, and then re-apply Intel. I'd be faced with the possibility of being 'stuck' with Supply, but that's fine. I just want to know if there's another chance I can get at this.

Couldn't find the answer at usnavyocs.com so you came over here huh? I don't blame you. Theres way to many wives and 9th level dungeon masters over there that pass bad gouge they don't have any business opening their mouths about.

Yea...can't seem to get much over there. Everyone seems to be too busy posting introductions.

I had been a member on that site for maybe 2 years and had not posted on it for a while, and then last year tried to ask a few questions about SWOs. Several mods jumped on me to post and intro and that "newbies" should read forum stickies, yadda yadda yadda. Comical, really.

The answer is yes, you can redesignate. One of my good friends entered as supply and managed to switch to pilot. It was a lot of work on his part... he got his PPL etc and had to reapply, I believe, 4 times. So it is possible... but not definite... and will require lots of work.

Thanks, Vette. I'm gonna try to wrangle this with my recruiter.

Here's my two cents. If you are at all interested in aviation, which I assume you are since you applied for it, I would recommend sticking with aviation and then making a lateral transfer to Intel during your first shore tour. It will give you some experience on the pointy end, which is worth its weight in gold when you work in the "supporting" forces (Intel, IW, Supply, etc).

Don't get me wrong I have nothing against Intel at all, but this would give you a shot to do both, aviation and intelligence. I think it is much easier to lat transfer from aviation to intel than vice versa.

Also, don't take this as a guarantee that lat xfer to Intel is an automatic thing... but with good performance in your squadron and an intel related shore tour you can greatly increase your chances. I know many URLs that have lat xfer'd to Intel.

Just curious, but why do you want intel more than aviation?

Actually, I don't want Intel more than Aviation. I didn't apply for Aviation because I failed the FALANT...I am currently looking at getting a second test re-administered at the advice of some other AWers since MEPS isn't the most...competent facility.
Anyways, what ended up happening with my application is that I applied for Intel, AMDO, and Supply, and got picked up for Supply.

So what I'm trying to do is to re-designate from Supply to Intel, not Aviation to Intel. If I can get my color vision problem solved, I will fight for re-desig into Aviation, too.

No worries...on the aviation note, I just got off the phone with a local Community College's aviation school, I'm hoping to either find a FALANT or get some kind of FAA waiver. First step right now is to take a light gun signal test out at their tower. I don't think it'll work for the Navy, but it's a first step to seeing if MEPS messed up or if I really have a deficiency.

And after seeing the last post in Fusu's thread on the intel ap, I'm definitely going to try to Re-designate into Intel.

Can you read those card things? I don't know what they are called, but they have the numbers inside of the circles. The numbers and circles are different colors, one is reddish and the other is greenish.

Negative, I have never been able to get those...when I found out about the FALANT, I figured I'd have a chance. In my mind, I can see colors just fine, but I always draw blanks when it comes to the PIPs (colored dots with numbers). I probably get 8 out of 14 average.
